CHAPTERS 695 - 697

CHAPTER 695

"Jane!" Edwin Carter grabbed Jane Ronan's hand in utter excitement.

This time, he was 100 percent sure that he did not just hallucinate, but indeed, Jane moved. She gave him a response.

"Jane, don't rush it, let's take it slowly. You can get up slowly."

Edwin was so exhilarated that he did not know what to do, just like a silly boy. It seemed inappropriate to hold onto Jane tightly, but he did not want to let go of her either.

After going to great lengths, spending so much time and effort, the wait seemed like years. Upon Edwin's  anticipation day and night, finally, Jane opened her.eyes slowly.

However, as she had been unconscious for too long, just as she opened her eyes, she felt a beam of glaring sunlight. The light hurt her eyes, and she teared uncontrollably.

Instinctively, she shut her eyes. "Jane, don't worry. I'll draw the curtains together then you can try opening your eyes again."

Through Jane's subtle movement, Edwin knew what she needed. He quickly drew the curtains and closed the door. The lights dimmed and the room got darker.

He returned to Jane's side and said, "Jane, try to open your eyes again."

Jane slowly opened her eyes again. However, because the light in the room was too dim, she could not see Edwin clearly even though he was close at hand.

"Jane, get used to this for a while, and see if it gets better later." Edwin's nervous voice echoed in Jane's ears. It was not difficult to notice those words he said portrayed his care and affection towards Jane.

"Edwin..." Jane opened her mouth, but she could not make a sound. Although it was just a small act of opening her eyes and mouth, she already used up almost all her strength.

Jane thought to herself, "How can I be so useless and make Edwin worry?"

But for Edwin, it was beyond delightful that Jane could wake up. So what if she could not speak for the time being?

"Jane, it doesn't matter. Let's take your time to recover slowly!" Edwin bent  over and kissed her forehead gently.

At this moment, he was overjoyed. He waited for three months. With him feeling disappointed day after day, Jane woke up miraculously today. What else could excite him more than this?

When Edwin kept reassuring her, Jane felt even more anxious, because she didn't want him to be sad for her. She moved and tried to sit up. However, because she had been in a coma for too long and her body was in poor condition, she only managed to budge a little and then lied down.

"Jane, we're not in a hurry!" Edwin touched her face and said, "I'll call the doctor over."

Since Jane could not say anything, Edwin did not wait for her answer. He summoned a few doctors who were on-call.

Jane was completely awake, which meant she was entirely out of critical condition.

When the doctors saw her, they all breathed a great sigh of relief and smiled. They have not smiled this wide for a long time. It meant that they could save themselves from being executed together with Jane, if unfortunately Jane could never wake up again.

After a series of hard work, Jane was prescribed intravenous nutrition and many methods were taken to aid her recovery in strength.

After the doctors left, Jane finally opened her eyes. As soon as she opened them, her first thought was to touch her abdomen.

However, as soon as she moved her hand slightly, Edwin grabbed her. A hint of pain flashed across his eyes and he said, "Jane, don't think about anything else. Just lie down."

"..." Jane looked at him. He seemed worn out, and her heart ached when she saw him. Edwin's attempt to stop her rendered Jane to understand that her instinct at the time of injury must be true. She lost their child..

Thinking that she had survived but her child was gone, her nose twitched and tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes like broken beads. Her heart ached as if someone was stabbing it with a knife.

"Jane, you have me, and we still have Janell.."

As he saw how Jane broke into tears as soon as she woke up, Edwin did not feel any better. He wanted to tell her that it did not matter if the child was gone. They were still young, so they could still have another child.

However, Edwin could not make such comments, because he knew how delighted Jane was when she knew that she was pregnant for the second time.

Jane never said much, but Edwin knew what she was thinking. Janell did not grow up with Jane because Janell was taken away from her since birth.

Therefore, Jane blamed herself a lot for that. When she learned that she was pregnant with a second child, she vowed to protect her child and to bring her child into this world like an ordinary child. She wanted to accompany the child and watch the child grow slowly.

Now the second child in her belly was growing healthily, but she miscarried because of an accident. How could she not feel pain?

Edwin did not know what to say, and he also knew that saying anything was pointless. The only thing he could do was to hold Jane in his arms and reassure her that he would stay with her all the time through actions.

"Edwin, I'm sorry! It's all my fault. I failed to protect our child..." Finally, Jane could speak up, but because she had not spoken for a long time after being injured, her voice was very hoarse that it was painful and sad to listen to.

In the past, Janell was hurt; and now, this baby was hurt too. The more Jane thought about it, the more she felt miserable, and the more she wept.

"Jane, you are not allowed to apologise to me again! You have never done anything to me that deserves an apology!" Edwin said authoritatively.

He was the one who should apologise. It was because he failed to protect her, hence she got hurt and suffered a miscarriage. In his life, the one thing he hated most was her apology!

"But.." Jane cried even harder. She did not protect their child well. She failed to bring her baby into this world safely. It was her, as a mother, who had failed to fulfill her duty.

"There is no 'but'. If you like children, we can always try again in the future." Edwin was comforting Jane instinctively.

On the day that Jane was injured, he saw how she was bleeding profusely and he realised she lost her child but he could not do anything about it.

Since then, he swore that he would never let her go through that kind of pain again.

"Edwin..." Jane sobbed and wiped her tears on Edwin's white shirt.

"Jane, you still have me!" Edwin patted Jane on her back. He repeated the sentence again, emphasizing that she was not alone because she had him.

Jane did not say anything. She was wailing in Edwin's arms, as if she was trying to vent all the pain of losing her child. She finally stopped crying when she fell asleep in his embrace.

Jane let go of her and placed her back on the pillow. She gently wiped the tears at the corner of her eyes, and lowered his head to kiss her forehead. "Silly girl!"

It was not until this moment that Edwin really believed that what had happened this afternoon was not a fantasy. Jane had finally awakened and returned to his side..

CHAPTER 696

"Mommy, open your mouth, 'll feed you this apple!" Janell held a piece of the apple sliced by her father and fed it to her mother.

As Jane had woken up, Janell was ecstatic. No matter who she came across, she would brag happily and said, "My mom never wanted to leave me. Mommy loves me very much."

Therefore, Janell took the initiative to feed her mother with the fruits her father had sliced. This was because her mother had just awakened and still did not have enough strength, so she needed to take good care of her mother together with her father.

"Thank you, honey!" After Jane gently expressed her gratitude, she opened her mouth and bit the apple. When she bit the apple, she deliberately bit Janell's finger as well.

"Mom, that's my finger!" Janell instinctively wanted to withdraw her little finger, but just as she wanted to move away, she stopped.

Her father told her that her mother was very weak and asked her to take good care of her mother. She firmly remembered her father's advice, so she didn't dare to withdraw her fingers forcefully.

What if she hurt her mother, and her mother fell asleep and ignored her and her father again? What should she do then?

"Can't I eat your fingers?" Jane  pretended that she did not understand and deliberately teased their daughter.

"No!" Janell shook her head nervously and said in a soft but affrmative tone.

She assumed that her mother must have been in a bad state of mind since she had been in a coma for such a long time, so she made such strange remarks.

"But if I want to eat your finger, can I?" Jane could not resist teasing her when she saw Janell's fluttering eyes flooded with surprise and disbelief.

Janell pursed her lips. She shook her head, then nodded, and shook again, "Mom, my hands are dirty. You can't eat them!"

Janell did not directly say no to her mother. Instead, she really thought about her mother's request. She considered letting her mother bite her once, but when she thought that a bitten finger would cause much pain, she hesitated.

Jane got close to Janell and kissed her rosy cheeks. "Honey, I'm just teasing you. You're my baby. I just want to kiss you. I won't bite your finger."

She had to pull back on her teasing. If she continued, what if she frightened Janell and made her cry? Jane certainly knew that she had to stop joking.

After waking up for two days, Jane definitely looked much better. Of course, she had Edwin who took care of her meticulously. Those two days after she came round, Edwin had never left her side. He instructed his domestic helpers to prepare her medications according to the doctor's prescription, then he would feed Jane personally.

He did that every meal very gently and carefully, with no ounce of impatience observed. Many people admired his deeds.

After peeling the fruit, Edwin held Janell in his arms and kissed her rosy pink cheeks. "Little fool, Mommy loves you the most. Why would she bite you?"

"Don't call Janell silly. She is the smartest baby." Maybe it was because Jane had just recently lost her child, she doted on Janell even more. No one was allowed to use any negative words on their daughter.

"Well, it's my fault!" Edwin grinned and said, "Our Janell is definitely the smartest child in the world, and I am the stupidest person."

In front of Jane and Janell, Edwin was willing to give in no matter what. He was willing to be the 'stupidest" among the three of them.

He was more than willing to love them and dote on them for the rest of his life! He wanted to let the two most cherished people in his life become the two most blessed ladies in the world.

"Dad, you're not stupid!" Janell felt sorry for her father, so she defended him naturally.

"Yes, I'm not stupid, and Janell's not stupid too. None of us are stupid." Edwin pinched Janell's face and put her on the ground.

"Janell, go play with your Little Aunt. I need to talk to Mommy alone."

Dad has something to tell Mom, alone! As a curious child, Janell would like to know what her father wanted to tell her mother, so she refused to find her Little Aunt.

"Janell, please find your Little Aunt." Edwin urged her.

"Mommy..." Janell threw herself into her mother's arms and rubbed her little head against her mother's chest.

Janell did not want to leave, so she wanted tonuse her mother to stand up for her. The little fellow was young but had an intelligent mind.

"It's okay if Janell doesn't want to go out. Besides, what do you want to tell me that she can't hear?" As soon as Janell acted cute, Jane's heart melted and she was unwilling to let her go.

"If Janell doesn't want to leave, it's okay, but please sit by the side." Edwin grabbed Janell from Jane's arms and put her aside."You can sit here. Don't move and interrupt our conversation."

It's good to have Janell around to be the witness for his marriage proposal with Karen.

"What's so mysterious?" Jane was also intrigued by Edwin's secretive looks, anticipating what he would say next.

Edwin reached out and held Jane's face, and she looked at him in the eye, "Jane!" He called her name out and did not continue talking after that.

"Hmm?" Jane was a little embarrassed with his stare. She wanted to turn her head away to avoid his eyes, but just as she moved,

Edwin straightened her head and said domineeringly, "Look at me, don't look away.

"What's the matter?" Edwin could've just said what he wanted to say. He looked so secretive, yet at the same time, he stared at her with such deep affection. That gave her some nervous palpitations.

"Jane." This time, after calling out Jane's name, Edwin approached her face and kissed her. His kiss was very gentle. When he kissed her lips, it made Jane feel like a feather brushing across her lips gently, and she was anticipating for more.

Noticing Jane's reaction, Edwin gradually kissed deeper. Jane could not resist his kiss at all, as if she had entered another dreamy and romantic world.

The two of them kissed each other so fondly that they almost forgot that there was a curious Janell sitting on the other side of the bed. The little fellow was so used to seeing her father kiss her mother previously, but she had never seen them kiss for such a long time.

Since she was an inquisitive child, naturally, she felt curious.

Unconsciously, Janell forgot that her father had just told her not to move. She quietly crawled to her parents' side. With her beautiful and sparkling big eyes emanating perplexity, she stared at her parents who were kissing intimately.

A third wheeler suddenly appeared in front of the kissing couple. No matter how much the couple focused and delved into the kiss, they were distracted by the presence of the little girl.

Jane pushed Edwin away and escaped from his arms. It was so embarrassing to have Janell around, whilst the two of  them were....

CHAPTER 697

When she was caught peeping, Janell turned around and tried to escape. However, Edwin grabbed her and picked her up.

"Little fella, go out and look for Little Aunt."

"But I don't want to!"

Her father's tone was so menacing that Janell felt pitiful. She pursed her lips and showed a pitiful look, as if she was about to cry anytime.

"Well, don't frighten our baby." Jane wanted to snatch her from Edwin, but because she was really weak, she couldn't carry Janell at all, so she had to persuade Edwin, "Edwin, what do you want to say? Please tell me quickly."

Jane spoke up for their child. What else could Edwin say? He could only let Janell stay.

Clever Janell immediately escaped from her father's arms and threw herself into her mother's arms. "Mom, I didn't see anything."

"Since you said you didn't see anything, then I believe you." Jane fondled Janell's head lovingly.

"Jane!" Edwin called out for Jane's name again and did not continue.

"What on earth do you want to tell me?" Jane was getting agitated. "Edwin, you want to propose to me, don't you?"

Looking at Edwin's recurring hesitation, Jane just wanted to make fun of him.

"Yes!" Edwin nodded his head heavily.

"Are you really proposing to me?" Jane could not believe that there was actually someone who proposed like this.

A proposal initiated by the woman, and agreed by the man. This seemed to be a mistake. It seemed that she was proposing to him, and he casually nodded and accepted.

Jane held back her anger, pursed her lips and said, "What are you talking about? How could there be someone like you."

It would be fine without a formal ceremony as Jane was not a ceremonious and ostentatious person. But Edwin did not even propose properly.

"Jane, will you marry me?" Edwin hesitated for a long time and found it difficult to say it out loud. At this time, when he knew Jane read through his mind, he clenched and finally blurted out those words.

Under scrutiny, Edwin seemed to be blushing. He did not dare to look at Jane directly. On one hand, he felt a little awkward; on the other hand, he was a little worried that Jane would not agree.

"Ah..." Jane did not expect him to speak out abruptly and she was stunned for a moment. She looked at Edwin foolishly and forgot that she should agree to the proposal.

"Jane!" Edwin pressured.

"Yes!" Although he proposed in such a simple manner, Jane answered him very firmly.

Although it was just a simple "yes", it seemed that she had consumed all her energy to answer the question. Marrying him, becoming his wife, living happily ever after with him for the rest of her life was what she always had in mind.

From now on, no matter what she had to keep him close. No matter what the reason was, she would never mention breaking up or divorcing again.  Forever and ever, even in their next lives...

If she could, she hoped that she could still be his wife in her next life.

"Boo-" Janell expressed her sadness. She was clearly parents favourite, but since her parents finally patched things up, she would go back to being their third wheel again.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Jane immediately shifted her attention to Janell.

"I also want to marry someone!" If her mother wanted to marry her father, then she also wanted to marry someone. She did not want to be their third wheel. She wanted to be someone's one true love.

"Oh, Janell wants to get married?" Jane teased her daughter.

"Since you are getting married, then I want to get married too." Janell mumbled.

"Okay, then you can come along with us and we could get married together." Edwin carried Janell in his arms and bit her gently.

"No!" Janell refused immediately.

"You don't want it? If you don't want to be with Mommy, then who do you want to marry?" Edwin played along with Janell and spoke to her sweetly.

"I want to grow up quickly. I want to marry Brother Lucas when I grow up!" Janell said firmly to her father in her childish voice.

"It was absolutely impossible for her to fall in love with Brother Lucas!"

To her, Brother Lucas was a big brother who could protect her and help her fend off bad people. He was also a big brother who loved her very much.

Brother Lucas was like her father, an omnipotent superhero and an idol she looked up to. She wanted to marry Brother Lucas because she could depend on him..

After all, besides her parents, Brother Lucas was the only one who treated her well in her life.

Suddenly upon hearing "Brother Lucas" again, Edwin Carter frowned slightly and changed the topic, "Janell, Mommy needs to rest. You'll follow Little Aunt back home first."

Now that Janell was still young, and Lucas had not left for a time long enough, thus the little fellow still remembered him well. Edwin thought, "After some time, the little fellow will naturally forget that person."

In the future, Janell will grow up slowly. He wanted to pick the best and most charming man for the little fellow. The man must be worthy of Janell, and would only treat Janell well his entire life.

In work, Edwin claimed that there was nothing impossible for him to handle, but when it came to Jane or Janell, he always worried too much about everything.

Now, Janell was only four years old. She was such a little girl. As long as he taught her well and guided her lovingly through her growing years, no one could tell clearly what would happen in the future.

Love was such a complex matter. When Janell grew up later, the man whom Edwin preferred for his daughter, might not be fancied by Janell. However, at this moment, Edwin did not want to think about that yet.

"Edwin, I'm not sleepy. I would like Janell to accompany me for a while more. I want to talk to her."

After sleeping for three months, losing a child and also almost her life, Jane cherished every second she spent with Edwin and Janell now that she was finally alive and conscious.

In this world, nothing is constant and permanent. No one knew what would happen the next moment, so she cherished every second and minute she spent with the both of them.

"You didn't take a nap in the afternoon." Edwin was worried that Jane was tired, which would hinder her recovery.

"I've slept for three months. I don't want to sleep anymore." Jane smiled at him. She was really terrified of sleeping. She was worried that if she closed her eyes and fell asleep, she would not be able to wake up again.

Just like those three months, most of the time, she could hear Edwin and Janell clearly but she could not give them any response.

In her coma, she felt like she was stuck in the rough seas, hit by the choppy waves that made her unable to speak. She could do nothing but drift with the tide. And she drifted and followed the tides for three whole months now, causing her relatives and friends who cared about her to worry for her for three months.

Now that she had finally awakened, she could not bear to close her eyes again..
