CHAPTERS 627 - 629

CHAPTER 627 DIVORCE AGREEMENT

After Jane met him in the bedroom earlier, Edwin didn't leave the study anymore.

He 'considerately left the room to Jane tonight, and didn't stop her from staying close to Janell.

That night, she still slept in the master bedroom with Janell.

Janell slept in the afternoon, so she wasn't able to sleep that early in the night. She pulled Jane Ronan along and asked her a few questions. Almost all the questions had been asked.

Although Janell had a lot of questions, Jane Ronan didn't show the slightest impatience. She would always answer any of Janell's questions with all her heart.

Tonight was the last time they would lie together like this. From now on, she could no longer hug Janell's soft body as she slept, so she treasured every second she spent with Janell.

"Mommy, when can I grow up?" This question had always been Janell's most concerned question. Even though her eyelids were already fighting, she hadn't forgotten to ask her mother.

Jane Ronan embraced her and said gently, "As long as you eat every meal properly and not be picky, you will grow up very quickly.."

I want to grow up quickly."  When she grew up she could find Brother Lionel and even take care of her Mommy. She didn't want her Mommy to get sad again.

"Yes, mom's baby will definitely grow up quickly." Jane Ronan looked at Janell who had already fallen asleep, pinched her pink cheeks, and took a picture from the phone on the bedside table.

These few days, she had taken a lot of photos and videos of Janell.  so she could look at them whenever she missed her in the future.

Flipping through the whole photo album, the last one was a photo of Edwin Carter. She secretly took it when he fell asleep the night before yesterday.

Edwin Carter rarely took photos, so Jane Ronan didn't even have a decent photo of him on her phone. This was the only one.

But at least she had one.

Jane Ronan spent the night with her eyes open. It was a long night, but to her, it was a quick one.

She wished that time could go by more slowly so that her relationship with Edwin Carter could be maintained for a little longer.

However, things seemed to be always going against one's will. The more she wanted time to slow down, the faster it flew by.

Although she didn't sleep throughout the night, Jane was rather energetic the next day.

She got up early to wash and change into beautiful clothes and makeup … She was going to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a divorce from Edwin Carter.

When she got up, Janell was still asleep. She told the nanny to look after her, and sent Edwin a message as she left.

"Mr. Carter,  I'm going to the Civil Affairs Bureau first, please come as soon as you can! Thank you very much."

The cold and polite text message was sent out like a stone sinking into the ocean. Edwin Carter didn't reply to her message and didn't know if he had seen it or not. He also didn't know when he would come.

Jane Ronan put away her phone and walked outside the villa area. She called a taxi and rushed to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Since she had already decided to break up with Edwin Carter, she didn't spend his things anymore and had no reason to ask his driver to drive her again.

She told him that she wouldn't want any of his money yesterday, but what had she done to deserve any of it anyway?

She also didn't want to take Janell away. It's not that she didn't want her, but she felt like Edwin and his daughter couldn't live without each other. She came into her life 'later' than he did, so she had no right to take Janell away.

Seated in the back of the taxi, Jane Ronan gently caressed her still-flat belly. The child in her belly was the only one she wanted to take away.

It was also the only one Edwin Carter left to her!

   "..."

   Civil Affairs Bureau.

When Jane arrived, they had just started operations. She looked around and found a place to sit.

She was thinking that she would have to wait for some time since Edwin was always so busy.

   But again, she was wrong.

Not long after she arrived, Edwin Carter also came.

Today, Edwin Carter was still wearing a white shirt with black pants. No matter where he went, he would immediately attract everyone's attention.

When Edwin arrived, Jane didn't spot him immediately, but she looked over because of the gasps of the people around her.

She looked up and saw Edwin Carter walking in front of the two men.

Jane knew one of the men was Edwin's special assistant Hal Barnes,  but the other man was unfamiliar. Jane had never seen him before.

Edwin Carter  saw her, but he only looked at her briefly. He walked straight into a private consultation room.

Jane Ronan  thought bitterly, "He must think that sparing me another glance would cause damage to his eyes, and talking to me would only be a chore too."

Hal Barnes and another man walked towards Jane Ronan. Hal Barnes smiled politely and said, "Miss Ronan, I am   Chairman Carter's  special assistant,  Hal Barnes. This is Attorney Hudson. He is in charge of drafting the divorce agreement between Boss Carter and you."

Not only did Edwin Carter change his way of addressing her, even  his assistant had changed his way of addressing her. In one night, she had returned to Miss Ronan from Mrs. Carter's identity.

Although she was sad, Jane Ronan still smiled politely, "Nice to meet you all!"

Attorney Hudson took out a document and handed it over to Jane Ronan. With a businesslike attitude, he said, "Miss Ronan, first take a look at this divorce agreement. If there are no problems, then please sign the agreement. "

Jane Ronan took the divorce agreement and looked through it. There were only a few simple lines on the agreement. The first few were the ones she mentioned yesterday, and the last one was something she didn't mention, added by Edwin Carter.

It probably meant that Edwin Carter wanted her to take away everything that belonged to her — including Janell!

Edwin Carter didn't even want Janell anymore?

   Or …

Jane Ronan slightly raised her eyes and looked towards Edwin Carter's direction. However, she only saw a thick door and didn't see Edwin Carter.

Attorney Hudson asked, "Miss Ronan, do you have any objections to this agreement?"

Jane Ronan unwittingly shook her head.

Attorney Hudson said, "If you have no objections,  please follow me p to the private room and sign with Chairman Carter, then you can finish up the rest of the divorce procedures. "

"Attorney Hudson, does he really not want Janell?" This was something that Jane Ronan had never dreamt of. Edwin Carter loved Janell so dearly, so how could he not want Janell?

"Miss Ronan, everything on the agreement were Chairman Carter's requests. I believe I've stated everything quite clearly." Attorney Hudson was a cold man. He spoke in a brief yet concise manner, not willing to explain any further.

"Assistant Barnes, Edwin really doesn't want Janell to go with him?" Jane could not believe it. She held on to her last sliver of hope as she looked at Hal Barnes..

CHAPTER 628 DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY?

"Miss Ronan, don't worry. You'll be the one to take care of Janell, but will provide alimony and financial support every month." This was the reply from the assistant, Hal Barnes, to Jane Ronan.

"What?" Alimony? Who wants his money?" Jane Ronan snapped, drawing the attention of everyone around her.

She was a strong and independent woman. She could easily earn a living for herself and her child. What she wanted to know was, what was Edwin thinking?

Did he think that Janell was an "object?

An object that he could just kick around?

The reason why she wanted him to take care of Janell was because she believed that Janell had a deeper relationship with him. How could he ask her to take away this precious child that they brought to the world so callously?

And this was Janell they were talking about!

"Miss Ronan, we are just passing on Chairman Carter's words. If you have any further questions, please ask him personally." Barnes said politely.

At the thought of confronting Edwin personally, Jane hesitated.

What could she ask Edwin Carter?

Just like how she asked for a divorce, he didn't even ask her why. She would probably only receive a cold gaze if she asked.

She was thinking of leaving Janell to him, because he was the most important person to the child. But it appeared that he didn't even want her. If that was the case, then she would raise Janell on her own!

Jane Ronan took a deep breath and said, "Attorney Hudson,  didn't you ask for me to sign the agreement with Chairman Carter in the private room? Why aren't you leading the way yet?"

She was the one who brought up the divorce. Why should she be unsatisfied if Edwin agreed without objections?

"Miss Ronan, this way please!" Attorney Hudson made a "please" gesture and walked in front of Jane Ronan to lead the way.

Just as Jane Ronan was about to follow him, she suddenly heard Hal Barnes whisper in her ear, "Mrs. Carter,  you're familiar with Mr. Carter's temper. If you had a fight, you just need to say a few nice words to him, and it will be alright."

As an assistant, he should not be meddling in his boss's personal issues, but if he did not help the situation, his life would be tougher from now on!

Their Chairman Carter was terrifying today. He wasn't aggressive nor he was loud, but he seemed to have became the cold person he used to be a few years ago.

This Chairman Carter is the real scary one.

Just when they couldn't understand why the Chairman was acting this way, he had asked them to draft a divorce agreement.

Then everyone knew what the problem was.

The problem must have been their CEO's wife.

Everyone who worked with Edwin knew that he viewed his wife as someone who was larger than life. Now that he was talking about a divorce, something big must have happened.

"Thank you for your kind intentions!" Jane Ronan thanked him and followed closely behind Attorney Hudson.

In the VIP lounge, there was not only a servants, but also some snacks. The divorce treatment for rich people was very different from that of ordinary people.

Edwin Carter was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed gracefully and a cigarette in his hand. When he saw Jane Ronan come in, his expression didn't change at all, but he subconsciously put the cigarette out.

Attorney Hudson said, "Chairman Carter, Miss Ronan has seen this contract, and she has no objections. Now you just have to sign the agreement, and you can go proceed with the divorce."

"No. I have an objection. I do not need any alimony or support from you." Jane looked at Edwin, but he ignored her.

Attorney Hudson placed the agreement in front of Edwin and gave him a pen. Edwin took the pen and signed his name forcefully.

He had written the word "Edwin Carter" almost every day, but never had he used so much strength like today. It was so heavy that the paper had been cut open.

Every stroke he drew was like a sharp knife crossing his heart. If he didn't exert his strength, he would probably yell out in pain instead.

Finally, the word "Edwin Carter" appeared in the letter of agreement.

Seeing his name on the agreement, Jane's heart was trembling, but she pursed her lips and forced a smile.

She confirmed once again that Edwin Carter was really impatient to get a divorce and signed his name without hesitation.

She used to find comfort in seeing his name on paper, but at this moment, it was painful to look at.

But that's good too. Isn't this what she hoped for?

Wasn't that what she was hoping to see?

Jane took the black pen from Attorney Hudson and signed her name clearly, 'Jane Ronan.

She had been using this signature since she was four years old. It was very familiar to her.

However, this time was probably the only time she was extremely unwilling to sign it and yet, she knew she had to.

Once she signed her name, then the words 'Jane Ronan' and 'Edwin Carter' would never be put together again

Finally, she managed to sign her name primly and neatly, just beneath Edwin's fierce and wild looking signature.

It was also at this moment that it was announced that Edwin Carter and Jane Ronan were no longer husband and wife today and that there would be no other relations between them.

"Mr. Carter, Miss Ronan,  are you both willing to get this divorce?" The person-in-charge of their divorce asked as part of the procedure.

Jane Ronan also remembered that when she mustered up the courage to marry Edwin Carter, the staff member who helped them get their marriage certificate also asked a similar question.

"Mr. Carter, Miss Ronan, are you two willing to marry each other?"

That day, just when Jane Ronan was hesitating, Edwin Carter held her hand for the first time. It was such a small action from him that made her nod firmly: "Yes, it was voluntary."

That day, the staff stamped the marriage certificate with photographs of the two of them and declared their marriage legally valid.

Today, staff members also stamped their divorce certificates with photographs of the two of them, announcing the end of their relationship.

From now on, it would be completely legal for both of them to get married to someone else. They could no longer interfere each other's lives.

The moment the stamp fell, Edwin Carter got up and left. He didn't even politely say goodbye to Jane Ronan. All the finishing work was done for him by his assistant and his lawyer.

Jane Ronan held the divorce certificate tightly in her palm.

In the future, she no longer had anything to do with Edwin Carter, but at least she still had a divorce certificate with his name, which proved that she had a relationship with him before.

As she walked out of the registration hall with her divorce certificate in hand, Jane Ronan suddenly remembered something. Today was the official national holiday, so under normal circumstances, these government departments were on vacation. How could they work normally today?

When she looked back, there was a sign at the door saying "Rest". They were on vacation, which meant that Edwin Carter was the one who had used his connections to successfully go through with the divorce procedures.

It turned out that Edwin Carter was even more anxious than she was. One more day and he wouldn't be able to wait any longer.

CHAPTER 629 DON'T SHOW UP IN FRONT OF ME AGAIN

She should just forget it and stop thinking about those useless things. Since Edwin had already filed for the divorce as she wished.

Now as she tried to recall, Edwin had always agreed to any requests she made over the years.

Hence, this divorce was no exception as well. She stood on the side of the road and looked at the cloudless sky. The world is big, but suddenly, she did not know where she could go.

Go home? But where was home for her?

She had lost her home!

Since their marriage, home was where Edwin was. Now that Jane had separated from Edwin, where would her home be?

Where could she settle down in the future?

"Baby, where can I take you to?" Jane asked in her heart while touching her belly.

It was a question for the baby, and also for herself. Janell's custody had been awarded to her. So she had to pick Janell up from the kindergarten.

She needed to find Janell and herself a home.

"Mommy!" Jane was just thinking about Janell when she heard her baby voice.

For a second, Jane thought she was hallucinating.

"Mommy!" Janell called out again with her sweet voice after not getting any response from Jane.

When she saw Janell standing in front of her, she hoped once again.

Yes, without Edwin, she still had two children, Janell and the baby in her belly... and Andrew, who was standing behind Janell.

Behind Andrew, there was Robert Michael... and the fluffy ball in Robert's arms, Mia.

"Woof Woof Woof." Mia was making noises to get attention.

She had her brother, her children, and Mia... Without Edwin, Jane still had a lot.

But why did she still feel empty when she had so much? No one seemed to be able to fill up the emptiness from the loss of Edwin.

"Mommy, can have hugs." Jane ran over.

At such a young age, she did not know that her parents had separated.

Perhaps, she did know that her parents had had a divorce, but she did not truly understand the meaning of divorce.

From her perspective, her daddy was still her daddy, and mommy was still her mommy. It's that simple!

Jane hugged Janell, kissed her on the face, and said with a gentle smile, "Janell, thank goodness I will have you."

Thankfully, Edwin did not request for Janell's custody.

When she felt absolutely helpless, she could at least have Janell by her side, giving her strength and motivation to move forward.

"Let's go home," Robert spoke. He was standing a few steps away from her and was looking at Jane quietly.

He seemed to have a lot of things to say to Jane, but in the end, he only said those words.

"Brother, thank you!" Jane said with a smile.

She should thank Robert. Since she was reunited with her brother, he would always be by her side whenever she needed him.

"I'm sorry!" Robert said out of a sudden.

Jane was stunned and asked, "Why are you apologizing to me all of a sudden?"

Robert did not explain further. He led Jane and the children to his BMW.

He really owed Jane an apology after all that had happened.

If he hadn't told Jane about their father's death before proper investigation, she wouldn't have misunderstood Edwin and caused their divorce.

Two days ago, Edwin met up with him and showed him all the evidences they had found.

The evidences has proved to him that the man who kidnapped his father was just a man who looked like Luis George's subordinate.

The man had been murdered, his body had been discovered too. All these proved Luis George's man's   innocence.

What was even more frightening, however, was the human skin mask that looked exactly like Edwin's face...

Before his father died, he said that Edwin was a bad guy and asked him to save Jane and her children from him.

His father had to have seen that man and mistakenly thought that he was Edwin.

As a psychology major who had been a psychologist for so many years, Robert thought he could see through others easily, but when he himself encountered things like these, he was being played like a fool.

Fortunately, although he was a fool, Edwin was clearer minded. Edwin and his men tracked the clues and discovered the murderer.

It also made him realize in time that Edwin was being wrongly accused, and unveiled who the real murderer was behind his father's death.

However, the relationship between Jane and Edwin could no longer be saved.

Edwin asked his men to send Janell, Andrew, and Mia to him, and informed him about their divorce.

When he heard it, Robert took almost half an hour to digest the shocking news.

How could Edwin divorce Jane so easily?

He called Edwin. But Edwin only asked him to take care of the mother and daughter pair, and not to worry about other things.

He didn't want to be so nosy about their private affairs, but Jane was his own sister after all. He couldn't just leave her alone like that.

Yet, no matter how hard he tried, he still couldn't get any further information.

Jane carried Janell in her arms and as she got into Robert's car, Hal Barnes rushed over and handed her a bag, "Miss Jane, here's the four tickets and your passports. Visas have all been sorted as well. The flight will be departing in another three hours. You guys should probably hurry to the airport now."

"Flight tickets, passports, and visas? The flight will depart in three hours?" Jane was confused. She had not figured out where to go.

"It's like this." Barned coughed a bit and imitated his chairman's cold tone. "I don't want to see her in Jiangbei anymore. Send them abroad. The farther the better."

He didn't want to see her in Jiangbei anymore?

Edwin was really ruthless and unrelenting in his actions. But in the past, she was lucky enough to not witness this side of him.

Karen took the tickets, endured the heart-wrenching pain, and responded with a smile, "Assistant Barnes, please send on my thanks to Chairman Carter."

They had gone their separate ways anyway. From now on, they would be complete strangers.

They would be so far apart, they would never meet again in this life.

It wasn't that bad idea actually "Miss Ronan, thank you for your cooperation. Your luggages have been sent to the airport. If you need anything in the future, you can call me at any time." Hal Barnes said respectfully.

Although Jane and Edwin had divorced, and Edwin had also said those hurtful words to ask her to get out of his sight.

However, everyone knew that it was impossible for Edwin Carter to turn a blind eye on them.

It was not as if Edwin had never kicked out someone from his life. If he were to truly do so, he surely wouldn't have instructed him to prepare their visas and luggages before sending them away..
