CHAPTERS 698 - 700

CHAPTER 698

In the blink of an eye, Jane had been awake for ten days. Under Edwin's diligent care, her physical condition and mental state had very much recovered.

Yesterday, the doctor officially announced that Jane could be discharged from the hospital, as long as she took enough rest for the time being,

Jane's recovery and discharge from the hospital were definitely good news for the Carter family. On this day, Mother Carter and Angela had been preparing lunch since morning to welcome Jane home. At the same time, they also invited Jane's friends over for a gathering.

Laura Ferdinand and her husband were Jane's only friends in the United States, so there were only three extra guests. The relationship between the family and Jane was extremely close, so they could be considered as family.

The whole family gathered together for a jolly time, and they hoped that their upcoming days would be much brighter.

Jane had been lying in the hospital for more than three months. Apart from Edwin, the person who worried most about Jane's physical condition would be Laura.

On the day of Jane's accident, Laura was still recovering from having given birth. When she heard that Jane got involved in an accident, she jumped out of bed and wanted to see Jane.

Fortunately, John Alex held her back. Eventually, John took a long time to persuade her and explained that Jane would be alright under Edwin's care, so Laura stayed home reluctantly.

Later, Jane was hospitalized. As her injuries were severe and the doctors were worried of sepsis, they did not allow visitors to visit her.

Therefore, every time when Laura visited Jane, she could only look at Jane from a distance outside the ward. There was nothing else she could do.

Today, Jane was discharged from the hospital. Once again, Laura wanted to rush to the hospital to pick.her up, but John stopped her. He told her that Edwin would take great care of Jane, so it was pointless for her to go. In the end, she had to follow John to go over to their house instead.

This Carter family was residing in their mansion in the United States. Many people could work very hard for a long time and would not be able to afford such a huge mansion.

When John just arrived in his car, another fleet of cars also arrived. It was not exaggerating at all to describe the fleet with the word 'motorcade'.

Edwin drove Jane home personally with his car at the forefront of the motorcade. At least a dozen cars followed him from behind, and each car was lavishly luxurious.

Edwin stopped the car, alighted from it, and then walked around to the rear car seat. He opened the car door and helped Janell out of the car.

"Jane, are you able to walk?" Edwin wanted to carry Jane, but Jane yanked his hand away, rolling her eyes at him. There were so many people watching over them. Furthermore, she was not disabled. Why did she need Edwin to carry her if she could walk?

Edwin could not.carry Jane, so he held Janell instead. Of course, Janell would never give her father a cold shoulder

"B*tch!" Seeing Jane get out of the car, Laura rushed over hurriedly and burst into tears of excitement with Jane in her arms. She did not bother to maintain her image at all.

"B*tch, do you know how scared I am?"

Jane had been unconscious for three months, and Laura had been worrying for that three months. She did not even have the mood to take care of her son. Fortunately, John was by her side.

"Laura, I'm sorry!" Seeing Laura drenched in tears, Jane also cried. She kept patting Laura on the back and comforted her,

"I'm fine now, don't be sad." After all these years, no matter what happened, besides having Edwin by her side, her bosom friend, Laura, had also been by her side all the time.

In a woman's lifetime, having a husband who loved her, a lovely and understanding daughter, and a best friend who was always by her side, these were considered blessings in her life. It was because of them that Jane could stand up again, continue her life with positivity, despite the many hardships she had been through.

"B*tch, you must take care in the future. Don't let us worry about you anymore." Laura said quaveringly, with her face still covered in tears.

Although Jane was discharged from the hospital, it did not mean that she could resume with her usual routine. She had been in a coma for a long time after being critically injured, and her physical condition was not as good as before.

Just as she arrived at the front door of the house, she and Laura were already sobbing and hugging each other. Edwin frowned, but it was inappropriate for him to pull Laura away. He turned around and looked at John standing next to him who was in a daze.

John was holding his chubby three-month-old son in his arms, and he suddenly noticed a cold stare from Edwin. He immediately understood what he had to do. He took a few steps forward, pulled Laura away and said, "Jane just came back from the hospital, and you are hugging but crying so much! Do you want her to go back and stay in the hospital for a few more days?"

"What nonsense are you talking about? I am glad to see her in her pink of health." Laura turned around and shouted at John. Because of the loud yell, their son in John's arms got scared and burst into tears.

"Son, don't cry, I'm scolding your stupid Dad, not you." Laura grabbed their chubby son over and shot John with a fierce glare.

"Our Fynn has grown up so much." Jane wiped her tears. She looked at the chubby little boy in Laura's arms and said enviously, "Laura, can I carry him?"

If the fetus in her belly were still alive, she would have been seven or eight months into the pregnancy, and the baby would be born in a month. If it were a boy, he would definitely look like Fynn, who was a plump, fair, little boy.

At the thought of the miscarried child, Jane's eyes turned dull instantly, and her heart twitched again. Could she have another child with Edwin?

"Of course!" Laura spoke when she was about to pass her child to Jane. But just as she was about to hand the baby over to Jane, she stopped. Jane had just recovered. Maybe she did not have the strength to carry Fynn yet.

She added, "Jane, let's take it one step at a time. This chubby baby is only three months old but he weighs 20 pounds already. Even the doctor said he is overweight."

"Mommy, I am here." After receiving her father's instructions, Janell scampered over in time and stood between her mother and Aunt Laura. How could she watch her mother carry someone else's baby?

Chubby baby was not as pretty as her. If her mother wanted to carry anyone, it had to be her instead. More importantly, it seemed that her father did not want her mother to carry the chubby baby in her arms.

Janell simply thought that her father was having the same thoughts as her. She did not want her mother to pay attention to other babies. In fact, Edwin was worried that Jane would get tired.

Jane and Laura had a strong bond with each other. If he stood out to stop them, Jane would not listen to him, so the best messenger would be Janell.

"My Janell gets jealous really easily!" Jane stroked Janell's face with a smile and said, "Let's not stand outside, let's enter the house."

CHAPTER 699

It was the first time for Laura Ferdinand at the Carter family's mansion in the United States, and it was the first time for Jane Ronan too. She was also surprised to see such a huge manor.

She had always thought that their Orchard Villa in Jiangbei was ridiculously luxurious enough. That was a large manor, so large in a way that many people would still not be able to afford despite struggling hard for several lifetimes. However, compared to the Carter family's mansion in New York, Orchard Villa was pretty insignificant.

Walking in from the main entrance, there were all kinds of leisure facilities around, such as pavilions, rockeries, fountains and so on. It seemed like a themed recreational park instead of a residential home.

From this, it could be seen that the Shengtian's financial resources and Edwin's capabilities were far beyond Jane's imagination. It seemed like she knew too little about Edwin. She was definitely not qualified to be his wife.

As Jane was looking around, Edwin walked over to her and gently held her waist, "I have always wanted to bring you here to have a look, but I always got occupied with things."

"It doesn't matter. I'm here now." Jane looked up at him with a smile and said, "I am not overthinking, don't worry."

Both of them had been through so many things together. She understood how nicely he had treated her. How could she misunderstand him?

"It's good that you aren't thinking too much." Edwin stroked her head. "When you get better, I will accompany you around for a walk. Later, I will ask Angela and Janell to show Laura around too." Edwin was never the type of person who would take the initiative to introduce and show people around; on the contrary, Laura was always a curious person.

He did not want to be a tour guide, so it was most appropriate to hand this task over to Angela and Janell.

"Well, let Janell greet the guests on our behalf." Jane was clear about her own physical condition. Currently, she could not withstand the cold wind outside and she could not walk for a long time, so she knew she could not entertain Laura well.

Janell was the treasure of their family, and Laura really liked her. Therefore, Laura would definitely be happy to have Janell as her guide.

"Jane!" Edwin suddenly stopped walking and wrapped his arms around Jane's shoulder.

"Hmm?" Jane looked up at him and made eye contact with his brooding eyes. Edwin drew her hair behind her ears, held her head gently, and pushed her into his arms.

"This is so great!" He only said a few words, but Jane knew exactly what he wanted to say.

He must have wanted to say that both of them could walk together hand in hand now and he could hug her, so that was great! Besides Edwin reeling in happiness, Jane also felt that every second and minute they spent together was so precious.

On the day of the explosion, she thought she could not wake up anymore after closing her eyes. She thought that she could not see Edwin and Janell anymore.

When she was lying on the bed and unconscious, she almost drowned in the abyss of darkness several times as she wandered at the brink of death. It was not easy for her to come round. She never dared to think about being able to still be physically well, or stay by Edwin's side and have him hold her while she nestled in his arms, listening to his steady and thumping heartbeat.

In her life, she had experienced a lot of unfortunate events, including losing her parents, having her child being taken away, giving in to her enemies, and more. But she had no regrets at all. She did not regret living in this world. Because among all the bad things that happened, she met Edwin, the man who held her so dearly in his heart.

She was willing to spend the rest of her life accompanying him. Because of him, the bad things that happened in her life did not seem so bad. She only remembered him. She remembered his kindness and remembered their happy times together.

"Edwin!" She.gently called his name out and looked at him with her sparkling eyes.

"What do you want to say?" Edwin asked.

"Thank you!" Jane responded with a smile. Thank you for not thinking of letting go of my hand during all those difficult times! Thank you for making me believe that true love existed in this world! Thank you for allowing me to bloom into the loveliest flower despite adversities."

"Are you silly?" For no reason, Jane thanked him again, so Edwin frowned. He did not want her to speak so courteously.

"I'm not silly!" Jane nestled in Edwin's arms. Listening to his steady and powerful heartbeat, she reached out to encircle his lean waist. In the future, no matter how bumpy the path ahead would be, as long as she had Janell and him by her side, she no longer needed to worry.

"Jane, let's go to Santorini, on the Aegean Sea, before the 20th of this month." Edwin intended to give Jane a surprise.

He planned to tell Jane about the wedding on the day of the wedding itself. This was the most romantic thing he could think off to do for Jane.

"Why do you think of going there suddenly?" The Aegean Sea was a destination that Jane had always wanted to go so badly, but she never had a chance to go there.

"Didn't we say that we would go there to have a look?" Edwin had been preparing for the wedding for a long time, which was always delayed. This time, he could not afford to allow any accidents to happen again.

"Sure!" Jane was secretly determined that she would take good care of herself from now onwards.

That way, when the day of their Santorini trip arrives, her health would not be a hindrance to Edwin.

"Brother, sister-in-law, you have a lot of time in the future. Don't get so intimate now. Brother, you should go greet the guests. Sister should get some rest."

Everyone in the family was busy, but the main characters for today were hiding in the garden and having their own sweet time. How could Angela, the meddlesome fellow, bear to see that?

"You are an adult now, and regarding everything at home, I'll leave you in charge, just do whatever you want."

Edwin was very dissatisfied that Angela appeared at this time. He was persuading Jane to go to the Aegean Sea with him.

Angela suppressed her anger, pursed her lips, and said, "Mom asks you to go back into the house. She's gotten a charm from the church before she came to the United States. She wants to hand it to Sister."

Edwin was about to say something, but Jane squeezed his hand and said, "Let's go back and spend some time with our family. Regardless of whether you want to accept Mom's charm or not, I still want it." Jane was not religious, but Mother Carter was.

The charm that she had gotten was definitely for the blessing of the younger generation. She had to accept her kind intentions.

"I'm fine with that." Edwin would definitely listen to her. He seemed to have a higher threshold and tolerance towards Jane.

"Sister-in-law, my hate towards my brother is escalating." Angela stepped forward to hold Jane and glared at Edwin with dissatisfaction. "He never cares about me now."

Before Edwin got married, apart from his work, Angela's affairs mattered most to Edwin. Angela often cooked up trouble, and whatever it was, Edwin often had to clean her mess up for her..

CHAPTER 700

Those times, it seemed to be fun for Edwin to clean up her mess. So, Angela was also having fun creating more troubles for him.

Her cold brother was really like a block of ice outside work. If she didn't create some fun for him in his pastime, he would probably be bored to death.

However, these things had changed after Edwin got married. After marrying Jane Ronan, Edwin's attention was no longer on Angela. All his attention, apart from work, shifted to Jane. He was much more considerate to Jane than he was to Angela.

Thinking that her cold bother no longer paid attention to her, Angela also felt jealous sometimes. But when she thought about it again, without her cold brother, she still had Victor James.

Although Victor never knew how to be kind to women, she could slowly guide him. Victor's temper was much better now than in the past.

One night, when she was sleeping, she accidentally kicked Victor off the bed. It was rare for Victor to not lose his temper. He climbed up the bed and continued to sleep as if nothing had happened. If it were the ill-tempered Victor James in the past, he would probably lift her up and throw her out of the window.

"Is Victor treating you well?" Indeed, Edwin changed the topic to Victor.

In his apprehension, Angela was an adult already, so he could not protect her all the time anymore like before. Now that she had grown up and had been dating Victor, needless to say,

Victor would take good care of her. She did not need anyone else to worry about her. Of course, this was just referring solely to cleaning up Angela's mess. If something really happened to Angela, Edwin would react faster than anyone else.

"Does Victor ever treat me nicely?"

When it came to Victor, Angela felt as sweet as honey, but she never wanted to admit it. After Jane's accident, her family came back to the United States. Victor could not stay for long because of his military status and job, so he went back after a few days.

Now, Angela had not met Victor for nearly three months. Sometimes, she missed him so much that she could not fall asleep at night. So many countless nights, she had been video chatting on her mobile phone with Victor under the quilt, to relieve her pain of missing him. However, the bastard Victor could fall asleep as they were chatting.

"Angela, it's not that I want to speak highly of Victor, but he really cares about you." There was a saying that goes the onlooker sees more of the game'.

Angela and Victor were dating, so they could not see things from a bigger picture. However, Jane, being a bystander, could see it clearly.

Likewise, for the relationship between Jane and Edwin, Jane could not see things from the bigger picture too. But as a bystander, Angela could see through them crystal clear.

"Sister-in-law, do you think he cares about me?" Angela rubbed her head on Jane's shoulder and giggled. "Tell me, how did he care about me?" Angela had always been lively and open-minded.

She liked Victor very much, and always kept it on the tip of her tongue as if she was worried that others would not know about it. However, she could not see how good Victor was to her, so it was great for her to hear a little from others' perspectives.

"He always takes your things to heart. He cares about you and loves you. When you face problems, he is always the first one to stand out."

Jane's voice was naturally gentle and mellow. As she was slowly talking about Victor's kindness for Angela, Angela was so touched by her words.

"Sister-in-law, take a walk with my brother. I'm going to give Victor a call now," Angela said as she left.

"Damn Victor. What's so great about this man?" Her life was helplessly dedicated to Victor now. When someone else praised him, all she wanted was to hear Victor's voice.

"Angela is such a nice girl!" Jane exclaimed from the bottom of her heart.

She had experienced such a drastic change in her family background, but she was still nice and living happily. She was always the zany in her family.

"You're nice too," Edwin said. Beauty was in the eyes of the beholder, some people might look prettier and gentler than Jane, but no other woman could ever get Edwin's attention.

He remembered Jane fondly despite only meeting her once years ago. The second time they met, he actually forced Jane's blind date partner to leave and took his place

"Thank you for your compliment, Mr. Carter! I will accept your compliment open-heartedly!" Jane replied, beaming from ear to ear.

How Jane said "Mr. Carter" sounded a little naughty and coy and Edwin liked it. When he heard her address him that way, a faint smile appeared on Edwin's face unconsciously. It was such a genuine smile.

He responded, "Mrs. Carter, say my name again!" Jane was stunned and so she questioned, "What name?"

"What do you think, Mrs. Carter?" He had already called her Mrs. Carter, shouldn't she call him Mr. Carter in return?

"Mr. Carter, if you don't tell me, how am I supposed to know?" Jane licked her lips and chuckled. He was Mr. Carter! She was his Mrs. Carter!

"You really don't know?" Edwin grabbed her and held her face. It seemed that he was ready to kiss her right away if she continued to act naughty.

"I really don't know!" Jane smiled playfully. Before she finished her words, Edwin kissed her. Jane did not evade him nor reject his advances, but she reciprocated Edwin's kiss passionately.

However, just as she was getting turned on, he let go of her. Seeing Jane's sad eyes, Edwin caressed her pink lips and said with a chuckle, "You are still very weak. We have a long way to go."

Jane did not know what to say. When did this man become so evil? He even made fun of her. Jane raised her fist and punched him on the chest.

"You're so annoying!"

"Annoying?" Edwin grabbed her fist and smirked, "But I felt that you enjoyed my kiss very much just now."

Jane was again speechless. She did like his kiss, but she was really shy. It was enough for them to keep their true thoughts to themselves, so why did he have to speak it out loud? Did he deliberately want to mock her?

Having been married for so many years, Jane still blushed. Looking at her embarrassed look, Edwin's mood cheered up and he laughed out loud.

Edwin had always been reserved. He would not express his feelings easily, be it anger or happiness. In other words, no matter if he was happy or sad, everyone would just think that he was arrogant and hard to get close to.

It was a rare occasion like this very moment where he could laugh out loud. This sort of situation had almost never happened.

Seeing Edwin laugh out loud, Jane also cheered up. She said to herself, "In the future, I must make Edwin laugh more frequently, just like right now.".
