CHAPTERS 663 - 665

CHAPTER 663

Looking at Jane Ronan, Edwin Carter suddenly lost control and shouted, "Jane, who do you think you are?"

Did she really think she could make him worry about her for the rest of his life? Did she really think that he could not live without her?

Jane had just been busy with the design drafts and devoted herself to it, but with her laptop being smashed to the ground and hearing his angry voice, she brought herself back to reality.

As she saw how angry Edwin had gotten, Jane took two steps back in shock. She wanted to say something, but when she opened her mouth, she couldn't say anything at all.

She had thought of the situations that might play out once they had a conversation, but none of them was this current situation. She was afraid of him, but at the same time, she felt lost and confused.

She took two steps back, but Edwin took  three steps forward. After several steps, she was pressed against the wall by Edwin.

"Edwin, I.." Jane was afraid of Edwin's look. She wanted him to let her go, but she stammered for a long time before finding the most suitable excuse.

"We are divorced. Please let go of me first." Her tone was panicked yet polite.

"Divorced? Let you go?" They hadn't talked to each other for a long time. But now, as they met again, she actually cited "divorce' in her first sentence.

Edwin felt that he was about to explode. He almost lost his mind and wanted to punch Jane in the head.

Seeing Edwin's fist coming towards her, Jane was so scared that she trembled. She wanted to dodge it, but she couldn't so she closed her eyes instinctively.

If she couldn't see how he hit her, maybe it wouldn't hurt that much. However, Edwin's punch, which exhausted all the strength in his body, did not land on Jane, but it hit the wall behind Jane.

The wall was made of cement. Edwin's punch hit the wall with all his strength. His knuckles became instantly bloody.

He held Jane's chin hard. "Jane, open your eyes and look at me."

Jane shook her head. She was scared! She didn't dare to! She was afraid to confront Edwin. She was afraid that all the strength she pretended to have would collapse once she saw him.

So, she decided to be a coward. "Jane, I told you to open your eyes and look at me. Can't you hear me?" Edwin shouted as he held Jane more tightly.

"It hurts!" The strength of Edwin's grip was getting stronger and stronger. Jane felt the pain and groaned instinctively.

"It hurts? So you know pain too?" Edwin sneered, but he still loosened the strength in his hands.

"Edwin, what, what the hell do you want to do?" This man, for some reason, suddenly came to her house and caused trouble today.

However, Edwin did not answer Jane's question. "Jane, do you think that just because I married you, I have to be responsible for you for the rest of my life?"

Jane bit her lips and whispered, "I've never thought so."

"You've never thought so? Do you know what you were doing all day long?" Edwin punched the wall again as he yelled out his frustrations.

"Your hand...Jane was so scared that her face turned pale, but she still reached out to hold Edwin's injured hand. When she saw that he was injured, her heart also ached.

Edwin shook her hand off and said, "My hand is injured. Are you happy that I'm injured?" Jane didn't know what to say.

Jane stared at him with her eyes wide. How could he think so? Even if they were no longer husband and wife, she hoped that he could have a good life.

"Jane, I'm talking to you. Are you dumb?" This heartless woman didn't want to say a word to him, didn't she?

Jane did not answer. He was angry, so she wanted to just let him vent. She knew that after he calmed down, he would be fine.

"You don't want to say anything, do you?" Edwin held her chin tightly again and forced her to raise her head. He lowered his head and kissed her on the lips. Well, it was not a kiss. He was obviously biting her.

Jane's lips were bitten, and blood flowed out. He sucked her sweet blood like a vampire. Jane pushed him away. After struggling for a few times, she found that his arms were too strong and she could not push him away at all.

Jane gave up and stopped pushing him away. This had happened before, so she didn't care that much. Jane put her hands down from Edwin's chest. She stopped struggling, and Edwin rationality was gradually coming back.

He let go of her and stroked Jane's lips with his rough fingers. He said calmly, "Jane, if I want to kill you, it will take only a few minutes."

What was wrong with him? Jane looked up at him, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Janell standing at the door.

The little fellow's fearful eyes were on her father and mother. Jane said worriedly, "Edwin, Janell is still there."

Edwin stared at Jane and sneered, "Jane, other than your design work, is there really anybody else in your heart?"

"I...." Why did he come here to say these words to her today? Why did he come here to disrupt her peaceful life, which she took so long to gain?

Jane did not understand, and she was both panicked and afraid. She added, "Edwin, we are divorced. You can't interfere with my affairs."

Edwin smiled coldly and said, "Our child was injured under your watch. I can't even ask anything about it?"

"Injured? Janell is injured?" Jane looked at Janell and walked past Edwin. She wanted to run over and hug Janell but she was pulled back by Edwin.

Edwin said gloomily, "Jane, don't forget that it was you who proposed to divorce me. You didn't want anything to do with me. I won't give the child's custody to a woman who is as heartless as you are."

"Edwin... The child, no..." Jane panicked. She didn't even know what she wanted to say.

"I have nothing to do with you in this life anymore. Whatever you want to do, it's up to you." Edwin held her wrist tightly.

"Damn it," he thought to himself, "this woman has lost weight again."

"Edwin, but, Janell.." Jane stammered.

"You still want Janell?" Edwin chuckled.

"What makes you think that you can have Janell? Did you ever do your duty as a mother for a whole day?"

She was trying very hard to be a good mother. She used all her remaining time besides caring for her to make more money so that Janell could live a better life in the future.

Edwin continued, "You only have your job in your heart. Well, then you should work hard in your job. I'll take Janell away, and we won't disturb your life anymore." Edwin had lost his patience.

He just wanted to say these harsh words to her so she could share his pain with him. Otherwise, she would never feel the heartache he felt when he heard the word "divorce"..

CHAPTER 664

"Edwin, don't." Jane instinctively reached out her hand to grab Edwin, who was about to turn around and leave.

She was holding onto his clothes tightly. She was hoping that Edwin wouldn't take Janell away from her when she was not mentally prepared.

Janell was her only motivation to be strong. She had already lost him, so she didn't want to lose their child. She knew she needed to beg him.

Maybe by begging him, he would change his mind. Jane was ready to say something but eventually decided to keep quiet.

Edwin was right. She failed her duty as a mother. She had no right to ask him to keep the child by her side. When she was pregnant with Janell, she was not able to protect her and she was surgically removed from her.

She gave birth to Janell when she hadn't reached full term, hence Janell was a premature baby.

If Edwin hadn't taken care of her so well, Janell wouldn' t be able to live so well. Later on, Jane lost her memory and couldn't even recognize herself.

Therefore, she couldn't even recognize her daughter too. Within those three years, Edwin was the one who raised Janell diligently, and turned her into such an adorable and sensible child.

Edwin had spoiled their daughter and took amazing care of her. Janell was also very attached to her Daddy. None of them could leave each other's side. So therefore, out of the three, she was the redundant one.

As Jane recalled the past, the hand that she held so tightly onto Edwin's shirt loosened and dropped down gradually. In the end, she was no longer strong and furious, she just spoke weakly, "I'm sorry!"

She felt sorry for Janell, because she had not fulfilled her role as a mother. She was also sorry for Edwin, because she had not been a good wife all this while.

"Sorry?" Edwin knew that Jane had given up from her loosened grip. He stood in front of her and looked at her gloomily. "Who did you say sorry to? Why did you say sorry?"

Jane shook her head and repeated, "I'm sorry!"

Edwin grabbed her shoulder and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Jane, I'm asking you a question. Answer me!"

"I don't know!" She didn't want to explain further. She had failed all her roles completely, so what was the point of explaining?

"You..." There was nothing left for her to say. Edwin also went speechless and let go of her shoulders.

"Leave." Jane took a lot of courage and strength to say that. She turned around as soon as she said so, trying to hide her tears from Edwin as he did not want him to see how helpless she looked.

Damn it! She still didn't want to say anything.

"Fine, we'll leave now. From now on, we will be careful not to see you anymore." Edwin clenched his bleeding fists really hard. He had been so patient with her and he could no longer take it.

Finally, he turned around and strode away with Jane in his arms, who was still frightened.

Jane listened to their footsteps and knew that they had left. She finally relieved the tension she's been holding on all this while and slid down to the floor weakly. Her tears streamed down from both sides of her cheeks like a waterfall.

How could her heart hurt so much? Every time she breathed, she felt like someone was stabbing her heart. She had lost her will to live. She was still assuring herself earlier that everything would be okay, as life would still go on no matter what.

But right at this moment, she felt that her world had stopped as her husband and daughter walked away from her. She was now in a dark world that she didn't know how to get out of.

Dark world!

She was very familiar with the dark world. She used to live in this dark world for many, many years. She used to work hard just like any other person during the day and lived an absolutely normal life.

But in the dead of night, she would be living in another world. There was no light, only mere darkness and blood.

There were many demons living there with her. They were often waiting  on her so they could swallow her whole. She struggled in the dark world of her nightmares all those nights. She could not find the way out, and all she felt were panic and fear.

"Buzz, buzz, buzz Her phone suddenly rang. Jane seemed to see a glimmer of hope when her phone rang. Was Edwin going to return Janell to her?

Holding the thought of that possibility, Jane wiped her tears and rushed to get her phone. She greeted excitedly, "Hello?"

"Jane, it's me!" A light male voice responded on the phone. Through the phone, Jane could feel how excited that guy was. She could even vaguely imagine how he would be smiling over the phone.

"Why, why are you still calling me?" Jane was totally frightened when she heard the voice that she's even forgotten about her sadness,

It was Ed Yates! It was him! She had gotten herself a new number after arriving in New York. How did Ed Yates get her new number? Was he following him?

The more she thought about it, the more terrifying it became. Jane could feel that there were a pair of eyes staring at her from behind. She turned around to look back, but she could not see anything.

"It has been a while since I last contacted you. I'm calling to send you my greetings and also wondering if you've been well recently. Is the baby in your belly doing well?" Ed spoke calmly, as if they were old friends who had not seen each other for a long time and simply wanted to catch up.

Ed spoke so casually, but every word he said would turn into terrifying notes in Jane's ears. "Ed Yates, I've already done what you asked me to do. Please don't disturb me anymore."

Ed Yates specifically mentioned the baby she was carrying so Jane rubbed her belly subconsciously.

She had been pregnant for four months now. Her belly started to bulge slightly, and she could occasionally feel the movement of the baby too.

She was more clearly reminded that she was carrying a new life inside of her. Yes, she no longer had Edwin or Janell, but she still had the baby in her belly...

This time, she would protect her child no matter what and never let anyone hurt herself or her child again. She needed to be a good mother.

"Disturb? I was calling to show my concerns and check if you were doing well." He still sounded very calm.

"I'm fine. I have nothing for you to worry about," Jane responded with grit.

Ed Yates then added, "Oh, I'm relieved to hear that you're good."

Jane yelled, "Ed Yates, what on earth do you want to do?"

"What do I want to do? You will soon find out what I want to do." Ed Yates chuckled.

"Jane, take care of your baby. Okay, goodbye." Ed Yates hung up right away without saying anything else..

CHAPTER 665

Jane was in a state of utter confusion as she looked at her phone. She couldn't quite believe that Ed Yates had called her just to have a casual chat.

Moreover, his last sentence indicated that he was going to do something terrible to her. What could Ed Yates do now? Was he going to go after Edwin?

Jane felt even more restless when she thought about Ed going after Edwin. She could never allow Ed Yates to do anything that would hurt Kevin.

"I can't let Ed Yates hurt Edwin!" Jane stared at the phone and murmured.

She tried to redial the number earlier, but when she called, she only heard the cold and unresponsive generic reply -the number you dialed had been turned off.

Ed Yates had turned off his phone as soon as he hung up! What exactly was he planning? Jane circled around the room anxiously. She couldn't just watch as Edwin get hurt.

Jane considered her plan carefully and decided to call Edwin to inform him about. He needed to be prepared for any upcoming threats.

Even if she would feel uncomfortable with Edwin's cold and heartless voice, it didn't matter. She just needed him to be fine!

She bit her lips as she looked at her phone. She looked at Edwin's contact number for a very long time. Jane stared at her phone and took a long deep breath before making the call.

After two beeps, the line was cut off right away Edwin didn't answer her call!

Jane was heartbroken and worried the same time as she stared at the disconnected call. What if Ed Yates did something to Edwin before she could inform him? What should she do then?

Jane's mind was already a complete mess, in addition to her worry for Edwin's safety. She was too flustered and didn't know what to do all of a sudden.

Laura rushed over to her just when she was feeling very anxious. Jane was so happy to see Laura, like she was her knight in shining armour.

She said to Laura hurriedly, "Laura, you know where Edwin lives, right?" Since Edwin did not answer her call, she could go to Edwin instead. She must inform him about the call regardless and not take any chances.

"Jane, what's going on between you and Edwin? Can you tell me?" Laura held Jane's hand and asked patiently.

John Alex received a call from Hal Barnes earlier, where he asked her to come over to check on Jane...

Laura was being summoned specifically, so it must have been Edwin's order. Laura really couldn't understand what was going on.

Edwin was obviously very concerned about Jane, but instead of speaking to her directly, he was asking someone else to do it on his behalf.

Jane was on the verge of tears. "Laura, could you please tell me where Edwin is? I have to find him." Jane was desperate.

No matter where she was, Edwin could always find her. But what about her?

Even though he had just left and might not have gone too far, she still couldn't find him even if she wanted to. As long as Edwin did not want her to find him, she would never be able to.

It turned out that the distance between the both of them was getting further. Even though they were physically close, she could never reach out to him.

"Yes, Karen, I know, but." Hal had ordered John to not reveal where Edwin lived, so Laura did not know what to tell her either.

"Laura, just tell me!" This time, Jane's tears were already swirling around her eyes, and she could just cry any minute now from the intense anxiety.

"Jane, can't you just tell me what's going on between you and Edwin?"

When Jane first arrived in New York, Laura had asked about them before. However, Jane asked her to give her some time to think it through, and Laura did not ask again since.

When Edwin came over a few days later and lived next door to Jane, she thought that they would make up soon.

But an entire month had passed, and there was no sign of their reconciliation. In fact, their relationship seemed to be getting worse.

"Laura, I'll tell you when I find him, okay? Please, please. Tell me, where is Edwin?" Jane's throat was turning hoarse. She sobbed and wiped her tears away.

"Laura, please tell me!" She had to find him. She had to find him no matter what.

"Jane, what are you on about?" Laura was aching upon seeing the desperate plea of Jane. She dragged Jane to the window and said, "Edwin lives right next door to you. He has been staying here since the third day you arrived in New  York."

"Next door?" All this while,Jane knew that Edwin saw Janell every day and that he was in New York, but she really didn't expect Edwin to live so close to them.

"Yes." Laura nodded.

"Laura, thank you!" After getting the answer she needed, Jane ran out of the house.

Laura didn't even manage to ask her to slow down. Jane rushed to the courtyard next door and looked at the closed door...

She passed by the courtyard almost every day when she went out for groceries, but she'd never realize the person who lived there was Edwin.

Jane took a deep breath, then she raised her trembling hand and pressed the doorbell. She pressed it over and over again, but no one came to the door.

Edwin was definitely in there, but he didn't respond at all. It proved exactly what he just said. He didn't want her to appear in front of them again.

Without any response from Edwin, Jane took out her phone and dialed Edwin's number. This time, the call was cut off as soon as it was connected again.

It was still snowing so it was absolutely freezing outside. Water vapour could even turn to ice. Jane was always afraid of the cold. She was never able to withstand the cold even if she was out in the snow for just a while.

But today, she was braving through the cold and appeared unbothered. Without any response from him, she decided to text Edwin.

She typed a line with her trembling hands, Edwin, open the door. I will only say a few words to you. I just need two minutes. It won't take much of your time!

Just like any other time when she texted, there was no response from him. However, Jane did not give up.She had to wait until Edwin opened the door.

She had to tell him that he was in a dangerous state, so no matter how cold it was and how long she had been standing outside, she had to tell him.

"Jane, it's snowing and you're standing out here. You'll catch a cold!" Laura chased after her and tried to persuade Jane to go back.

"Laura, you're expecting soon, right?" Jane cleverly changed the topic.

"Yes, very soon. This naughty boy has been very good at picking the right time. He probably couldn't wait for the New Year's, that's why he might be coming out soon."

Laura realized Jane's tactic and came to her senses, "Wait, we're talking about you now. Come home with me first."

CHAPTERS 660 - 662

CHAPTER 660

Hehehe.. Edwin Carter sneered silently as he tightened his grip on his fists. He badly wanted to just walk over and carry Jane home to teach her a lesson.

He wanted her to know that she could never escape from him in this life. No matter where she went, she will still be his woman. However, in the end, Edwin still did nothing...

But no, he could not do nothing, he told the driver to follow Jane wherever she went. He didn't want to disturb her and the children's life, so he didn't arrange for his men to follow her. Instead, he followed her personally to make sure that she was safe.

Although the Yates family did not have much control and power in New York, and it was relatively safer compared to Jiangbei, Edwin couldn't afford to be careless before he could completely bring the Yates family down.

Today, Jane went out at the same time as Janell usually came over. He was afraid that something would happen to Jane, so he rushed out. He barely had time to explain to Janell.

Jane wandered outside for more than half an hour. After making sure that she would not bump into Edwin when she got home, then only did she take a taxi back.

There were a lot of people hailing for cabs, but it didn't take her a long time to get a taxi. As soon as she waved her hand, a taxi stopped beside her. If it weren't for the taxi label on the car, she might have thought that the car was specially arranged for her.

She didn't take too long to get a taxi, and the road back home was smooth too. Hence, it was not too late when Jane got home.

When she returned to her house, Jane did not enter her house first. Instead, she went to Laura's house next door to pick Janell up.

In the past, Janell would be happy and often jumped around after seeing her father. As for today, she appeared so moody. She walked behind her mother and didn't want to talk.

"Baby, I'm a little late today. Sorry about that!" Jane put down the backpack and took.out the doll she bought for Janell.

"Baby, take a look. Look what I bought for you?"

"I don't want any gifts!" Janell said with a pitiful look as if she was about to cry. She did not even look at it and rejected the gift that her mother had bought for her.

"Baby, are you angry with me?" Jane guessed that she was upset because she came back home late. Janell must have gotten upset after meeting with her father and returned to an empty home.

She rubbed Janell's head and explained, "Baby, I was busy with work, so I came back a little late. I promise you that I'll come home early as soon as possible in the future, and I won't let you wait too long alone."

"Mommy, Daddy is missing!" After holding it in for a long time, Janell couldn't help but burst into tears. Today, she went to see her father happily, but her father was not there. She waited for a long time, but her father still didn't appear.

Her father didn't tell her anything and just disappeared. She wondered if her father left when she was not around?

Jane asked in a gentle voice, "How could Daddy be missing?" Janell whined softly, "I can't find Daddy."

What a typical child. She promised her father that she would never mention him in front of her mother. But when she was sad, she could not hold her frustration in any longer.

"Baby, Daddy may be busy with his work." Jane pinched Janell's face and said, "If you can't see him today, then you can see him tomorrow. I know that Daddy loves you so much, he won't leave you behind."

"Really?" Hearing her mother's words, Janell seemed to have seen a glimmer of hope.

"Of course it's true." The reason why she could be so sure was because Jane knew that Edwin loved Janell so much that he would not leave suddenly.

Edwin came to New York the second day they arrived just to accompany Janell. Moreover, he stayed in New York for so many days and met the little fellow every day. He would never leave without saying anything to her and make her sad.

"Okay okay, I know now!" This child felt better immediately already. In her world, life was simple. No one had evil intentions, and everything was beautiful.

Since Brother Lucas was good to her, she had always remembered him. She was always thinking about finding him when she grew up one day.

Jane held Janell's hand and went home. "Uncle and Brother Andrew are coming back soon. Can you prepare dinner together with me?"

"Okay." Janell nodded and hopped by her mother's side.

Suddenly, she thought of her father again. "Mommy, why don't Daddy eat with us?"

In the past, it was her mother, father, and her on the dining table; now it was her mother, uncle, brother Andrew, and her on the dining table...

She didn't know why her father, who she loved the most, was missing at the dining table.

"Because.." Jane did not want to lie to Janell, but Janell was still young, so it was not the right time to tell her the truth.

"Janell!" All of a sudden, a deep, charming, and seductive male voice came into their ears, which made both of them startle.

Janell turned around and threw herself into her father's arms with a smile. "Daddy, you're back!"

However, when Jane heard Edwin's voice, she was stunned and forgot how she was supposed to react. It was one thing to know that Edwin was in New York, but it was another thing to have Edwin appear in front of her...

She didn't know why he suddenly broke into her house. But soon, the conversation between Edwin and Janell gave her an answer.

She heard Edwin's pleasant voice from behind. "I was busy today, so I forgot to wait for you. So, I'll pick you up to have dinner together."

"Daddy, with Mommy too?" Janell asked excitedly.

"Only the two of us." Edwin was afraid of being rejected, so he declined Janell's request first. He didn't even say hello to Jane and left with Janell in his arms.

Jane didn't regain her composure until he walked away for a distance. When she turned back, Edwin had already left with Janell.

Ugh! Jane chuckled. He had already regarded her as a stranger. He didn't even give her a simple greeting after seeing her.

She was thinking of him foolishly, fantasizing about their reunion, and even acting out their future conversations.

Jane shook her head and tried hard to calm down. She tried hard not to have any other thoughts or expectations of Edwin.

Before she proposed the divorce, she knew he would no longer belong to her after the divorce. They were just strangers who had nothing to do with each other.

She told herself that she was going to forget about Edwin completely, but her memory of him was getting clearer and clearer. She could even feel the burning heat in her body when they made love intensely.

Jane had clearly remembered a lot of memories between them... But it was all in the past..

CHAPTER 661

Now, the two of them no longer belonged to each other! Just like today, they barely acknowledged each other.

Greetings seemed to be a luxury. Jane shook her head and smiled. In fact, it was good for Edwin to forget her, wasn't it? In that case, the video that Ed Yates threatened her with would no longer be spread out, and Edwin's reputation would not be affected.

They had divorced. Edwin had nothing to do with her anymore, so she would not bring him any trouble in the future.

Edwin's career would continue to grow stronger. Thinking of this, Jane felt much more relaxed in her heart. Didn't she do all of this just to make sure Edwin would be safe, and to let him live a good life?

Jane did not want to think too much. She picked herself together and continued to prepare dinner. Whatever happened, she still had to continue with her life.

The earth would not stop spinning just because you missed someone. Life went on. She had to move on. It seemed like Edwin had done so!

Days passed by fast. In a blink of an eye, it was just a week before the New Year's. During the past few days, Edwin had been staying in New York. Every day after he was busy with work, he would accompany Janell and teach her taekwondo.

One day, while Janell was watching cartoons, the female lead in the cartoon was dancing very well. Janell casually said that she wanted to learn dancing, then Edwin had hired her the best dancing teacher in New York.

Rumba, ballet, modern dance... He hired a few teachers to dance for Janell so that she could choose which dance she wanted to learn.

Janell chose ballet right away, but Edwin felt that ballet was too difficult and tried to persuade Janell to change her choice.

However, the little fellow had her own opinions and insisted on ballet. Edwin followed her wish.

It was peaceful in New York, but the situation in the business field back home was very tense. Edwin would be updated on the news every day.

As soon as Shengtian attacked the Yates Group, it shocked the entire business industry. The companies that were planning to cooperate with Yates Group recently stayed away from the two giants as they did not want to get involved.

Everyone was trying to stall their projects that were in discussion. They did not want to give up on their projects with Yates Group. If the Yates Group was not defeated by Shengtian this time, they still wanted to cooperate with the Yates Group.

Shengtian snatched Yates Group's two major projects of the year from the government. Once the policies were issued, it would seriously affect the loyalty Yates Group's employees and other companies that wanted to cut deals with the Yates Group.

There were other problems within the Yates Group: Shiney Yates, the leader of the Yates Group, married several wives. The children of the first wife and the children of the second wife got into a serious argument with each other.

In a short period of time, all kinds of rumors about the Yates family spread all over the world, causing major shareholders and board of directors to be strongly dissatisfied with the Yates family.

After the Yates Group had their dirty laundry aired, the board of directors held a shareholders' meeting. They clamored to change the Director of the company.

Internal disagreements were fueling too. As the news spread, Shengtian's employees started to stir up more trouble for them. They spread rumors, regardless of the authenticity of the rumors. The news spread even more, and soon, the Yates Group couldn't take it anymore.

Edwin was in New York, but Shengtian's every move was under his control. If Ed Yates wanted to fight with him, he would make the whole Yates family pay for Ed's wrongdoings.

Edwin wanted Ed to know that he could defeat the Yates with just a small action.

Who did he think he was to steal his woman? Unfortunately, Jane did not understand. She really thought that Ed could do something to Edwin.

If he, the great Efwin Carter, was really defeated by Ed Yates, then he would not be worthy of his reputation in the business industry.

After reporting the situation to Edwin , Luis George asked Edwin about their next steps, "Chairman Carter, do you think we should continue?"

"Continue!" Edwin responded in a deep voice. If he doesn't eliminate him quickly, he might have a chance to strike back.

If the Yates could make a comeback, they would definitely plot against Edwin again. In the business world, everyone who was familiar with Edwin knew that he was definitely a person who could distinguish kindness and hatred clearly.

Any company that cooperated well with Shengtian could make a lot of money. Shengtian never treat anyone badly. On the contrary, any company that went against Shengtian had never done well. They didn't even know how they were defeated so easily.

After ending the video call, Edwin looked at Robert Michael, who had been waiting for him for a long time. He raised his eyebrows slightly and asked, "What's the matter?"

Robert said, "I just want to talk to you about Jane. Are you two going to spend the rest of your lives like this?"

"We have divorced. We have no relationship now." Edwin answered calmly. It seemed that he really didn't care about Jane anymore. However, he broke the pen in his hand.

"Divorced?" Robert chuckled and said, "Edwin, you can deceive Jane, but do you think you can trick me?"

Robert admitted that the matter about his father was his fault, as he was really too impulsive. If you acted impulsively, you would lose your mind. If you acted impulsively, you wouldn't be able to calm down and think matters though.

That was why he fell into the enemy's trap so easily and mistakenly thought that Edwin was the murderer who killed his father.

However, after the incident about his father, Robert's mind was very clear and wise. He could see matters through a bigger lens now.

If Edwin really didn't care about Jane anymore, why did he spend so much effort to prepare the houses for them? Why did he move next door to where Jane lived? Was it just for the convenience of seeing Janell everyday?

Any Tom, Dick, and Harry wouldn't believe that Edwin lived there just to l see Janell. If he didn't care about Jane, why didn't he just take custody of Janell? Since he didn't care about Jane, right?

He said that the house that Jane was staying in was prepared by Hal Barnes behind his back... If it had not been for Edwin's orders, Hal would not have had any time to do these things

"You don't need to worry about my affairs." Edwin didn't like others to intervene in his own affairs. He knew clearly what he should do.

"I don't worry about you. But I care about Jane." Robert went home late last night. When he reached home, the lights in Jane's study were still on.

He walked over and pushed the door open. He saw that Jane was still focused on drawing her design draft.

She looked both focused and serious. He stood by the door for a long time, but she did not realize that he was there.

She did not see him until he called her name. She turned around and saw him. She was stunned for a while and then she said, "Brother, why haven't you slept yet?"

Before dinner last night, he called her and said that he would come back very late that night. He also told her that she didn't have to wait for him to have dinner.

But she seemed to have forgotten. It was not just this one time, there were also many similar situations that had happened frequently in the past two days..

CHAPTER 662

Besides designing and Janell, Jane seemed to have forgotten about everything  else. She became oblivious towards her surroundings and was often forgetful.

People that were under immense pressure or had a lot on their minds would turn out like this. Jane was like that right now.

It was not a big deal, but Jane was pregnant. What if this would harm the baby?

"Since you know that it is late too, so why don't you rest now? Don't forget that you are pregnant. If you don't want to sleep, the child still needs to rest too." Robert was a little mad at how Jane didn't prioritize her health and safety.

Jane smiled and explained herself, "I've promised the clients that I'll show them the first draft tomorrow. I'm not very satisfied  with the draft I drew in the afternoon, so I'm changing it."

Once she was inspired, Karen would give her 100%. She didn't need the clients to be very satisfied, but she needed to be satisfied with her own work.

Robert reached out and snatched the drawing pen from Jane's hand. "Please rest up now. Get up earlier and  continue tomorrow. Your body is your own responsibility. If you don't take care of yourself, how do you  expect others to take care of you?"

"I'll be done soon." Jane took another drawing pen and continued her design. Jane was very stubborn. If she had not completed her work, no one could talk her out of it. In the end, Robert had to stay up with her.

Robert told Edwin everything that happened to Jane in the past few days, but Edwin did not comment after hearing him.

Robert was a little angry. "Edwin, what are you doing? Do you want to just let her be? You're not going to care about her and just leave her on her own?"

Robert's words were too harsh, and Edwin also responded to him grumpily, "She chose the path she is in right now, no one held a gun to her head and forced her."

"Edwin, yes, she was foolish. But are you really that stupid to follow her as well?" Robert had never seen such a stupid Edwin. If anything happened to Jane and the child, it would be too late to fix anything.

"I am very clear." He knew very well that Jane was very stubborn. She would continue to act on her decision until someone shook her out of it violently.

She proposed for the divorce, so she was free to do whatever she wanted to do. He wanted her to learn her lesson. As long as she turned back, he would still be behind her, no matter when.

Robert roared, "Edwin!"

Edwin responded calmly, "Robert, don't forget that she brought up the divorce first."

Robert continued, "You knew clearly that she was being threatened."

Edwin sneered and no longer responded to Robert. It didn't  matter what he knew. All that mattered was that the silly Jane had made the final decision regardless.

"I'm leaving New York for quite some time. She will need to take care of the two children on her own. Think this through," Robert reminded sternly and then left him alone.

He didn't believe that Edwin could still sit idly by as he watched Jane work all day and night while managing two children on her own.

Yes, it was true that Edwin couldn't just ignore Jane. Everything Jane did was a huge matter in Edwin's mind. He didn't need to tell anyone this.

A few days ago, because of the slippery ground in the courtyard, Jane almost fell down. Edwin then asked his men to install some anti-slip material on the ground. He wanted to be sure something like that would never happen again.

Jane worked in her office every two days. As it was not easy to hail a cab from this housing area, Edwin paid for a group of taxis so they would drive around where Jane would be.

When she needed to take a taxi, she could get one at any time. She didn't need to stand in the snow and freeze anymore.

These were all small inconveniences. However, Edwin still treated them as important matters. He couldn't make any mistakes. He took care of Jane everywhere she went, and at the same time, he was still angry with Jane.

He was angry that Jane did not say anything to him, and he was angry that  Jane could actually propose a divorce just like that.

"Daddy!" Janell poked her head out of the door.

"Janell, what's wrong?" Seeing her, Edwin's face softened.

"It hurts!" Janell tried her best to lift her sleeves up, but she couldn't manage to for a long time because her clothes were too thick.

"Come here, let me see what's going on." Edwin carried Janell and took off her jacket. "Tell me, where does it hurt?"

"Here!" Janell pointed at her left arm with her finger.

"Let me have a look." Edwin took off Janell's clothes immediately, and he saw that her arm was bruised and swollen.

"Janell, tell me what happened?"

"I fell down!" Janell said pitifully.

Her father told her that she couldn't do anything that would worry her mother, so she didn't tell her mother that she fell down.

Hence, she came here just to tell her father. "Hang in there, Janell. I will take you to see a doctor right away." Edwin immediately rushed to the hospital with Janell in his arms.

The little fellow's arm was so swollen, but he only found out about it after such a long time.

Damn it!

Knowing that Janell went to see her father, Jane felt at ease to work at home. Her outfits and designs had gotten some good reviews, so the word got out fast.

She had a good reputation. Therefore, after she was done with her first order, she kept receiving more orders. She was very busy, but her income was pretty good.

Apart from taking care of Janell and resting, Jane would sit at the desk and get busy with her work. She was so busy today that she didn't realize that it was getting late and Janell had not returned home.

Edwin came back from the hospital with Janell after some time. Edwin held Janell's hand and pressed the doorbell. The doorbell rang several times, but no one in the house opened the door.

At first, Edwin thought that Jane was deliberately avoiding him, but after pressing a few times, he thought of what Robert had said earlier.

Jane might be in trouble. Thinking that something might have happened to Jane, Edwin didn't hesitate to move fast. He lifted his foot and kicked the door open, then he held Janell and rushed into the house as fast as he could.

Edwin rushed into the house and saw Jane sitting in front of her desk still drafting her design. She did not even respond to anyone and anything around her.

The anger that Edwin had been holding back for a long time burst out like a volcanic eruption; it was out of control.

He angrily walked towards Jane. He grabbed the laptop on Jane's desk and smashed it to the ground.

Bang!

After a loud bang, the laptop that was used for her work was broken into pieces, and the fragments flew everywhere.

"Ah.." When Jane slowly looked over, she saw Edwin's frightening eyes. There was fire burning in his eyes, and the fire could even swallow Jane alive..

CHAPTERS 657 - 659

CHAPTER 657

However, as soon as she felt better, her guard went back up again. This time, no one asked for her child. Maybe next time, someone would come asking for Janell on Edwin's behalf.

As long as he wanted to, he could take Janell away no matter what. Jane wanted Janell around, but she could not be so selfish. If Janell was only with her, then what about Edwin?

"Miss Ronan, please take the parcel!" The delivery staff reminded her.

"Oh, okay!" Jane didn't care about what gifts the gift shop in DD Plaza sent. She took the pen, and signed on the delivery list.

She knew that Edwin raised Janell, it was reasonable that he wanted to get custody over Janell, but she still couldn't bear to let her go. She missed three years of Janell's childhood. She really hoped that she could stay with Janell every day from now on.

The delivery staff left for some time, yet Jane still held Janell's hand and stood in the snow. She was in a daze while looking ahead.

"Jane, why are you standing in the snow daydreaming?" Laura raised her hand and waved it in front of Jane's eyes, but there was no response.

She pulled Jane again and asked, "Jane, what are you thinking about?"

Jane came to her senses and sniffed, "Thinking? What can I think about? I just want to know why Janell was so happy yesterday."

Janell was at Laura's place when she met Edwin. Laura must have met Edwin as well. If Edwin wanted to take Janell away, Laura would have known about it too.

"Why was she so happy yesterday?" Laura scratched her head. "We were watching cartoons at home. While watching cartoons, we mimicked the characters' lines. Janell did a better job than me. She could mimic many accents and remembered many lines, meanwhile, I couldn't even keep up."

Laura said a lot in one breath and she looked away occasionally while scratching her head. Jane had known her for so many years, and she always knew that if she was lying, she would habitually scratch her head and talk fast.

Even though she did not get a clear answer from Janell and Laura, Jane was very certain that they had met Edwin and kept this a secret from her.

She guessed it, but she did not want to expose Laura and Janell. Jane smiled and said, "I get you. I'm not as good as Janell too."

To be fair, who was Janell's teacher at home?

It was the head of Shengtian, Edwin Carter. Obviously he would raise his daughter to be smart.

"Jane, don't worry. We are all watching out for Janell for you. Nothing bad will happen. Don't worry." Laura knew that Janell was happy to see his father, but she must not reveal a single word to Jane.

"Okay, I just saw that she was very happy, but she didn't say why, so I asked you." Seeing that it was snowing heavily again, Jane said, "Laura, do you want to come in and sit?"

"Oh it's okay, I'm not going in. We have an appointment for a pregnancy checkup today. We'll need to go to the hospital later, Laura said.

Jane replied, "It's snowing heavily today, ask John to drive carefully."

"That guy, he would be very careful in everything he does in his life, even in bed."

Laura sounded dissatisfied with John, but she was the one who fell in love with him first!

At the same time, in the house next door to Jane's, Edwin was having a video conference with his subordinates.

"Chairman Carter, we've found out that there's something fishy about the project between Yates and Eternitee. The person in charge of this project for Eternitee received a villa worth 200 million dollars."

In the video conference, Luis George stood straight and looked directly at the camera to report to Edwin.

"Since you've found out about it, then spread the news. The bigger the better." Edwin crossed his legs and sat casually as he gave the order.

Luis added, "It has already been spread out, along with some other random news just to worsen matters. The Yates family has taken public relations measures already."

Edwin smiled subtly and said, "I've been very busy these days. I'll leave the decisions to you. You just need to report to me every night."

Luis had been by Edwin's side for many years. Edwin trusted that Luis could also settle matters as perfectly as he could.

Since he took the position as the director of Shengtian, Edwin had never given himself a day off. Now that he was so near to his wife and children, so it was good to take this opportunity to give himself a break.

"Chairman Carter, did you go to America?" As Edwin's special assistant, he didn't even know where he was.

Edwin raised his eyebrows, "Is there a problem?"

"No, no."

Of course, there was no problem, how could there be any problem? He just wanted to assure the safety of the chairman.

After he ended the call, Edwin looked out of the window. From his view, he had a good view of the front yard of the house where Jane lived. Janell was jumping happily in the yard, while Jane washes the snow off the sidewalk.

As she jumped around, Janell lost control and fell down. She rolled onto the ground like a snowball. Because her clothes were thick, it was a struggle for her to move.

After falling to the ground, she tried for a long time but still couldn't get up. When Jane finally saw her, she picked Janell up and said with a smile, "Are you trying to turn into a snowball to make me happy?"

Janell's eyes widened as she stared at her mother. What did her mother just say about her?

Snowballs were round! She didn't want to become a snowball, she wanted to become a pretty and beautiful girl.

Jane smiled and assured her, "You are still the most beautiful girl ever. Even if you roll in the snow like a snowball, you are still very cute."

"Mommy, I'm cute because you gave birth to me." Janell told her what her father had taught her to say to her mother.

Her father said that her mother would be very happy if she heard this. Sure enough, her mother smiled so happily and kissed her on the face.

Hearing the little girl's words, Jane felt like her heart was melting. Janell was so sensible and lovely, and she reminded her of Edwin.

Janell could turn out so cute and well because of her father's education and discipline.

Edwin was observing their every move. Looking at the smiles on their faces, Edwin could not stop himself from smiling too.

However, because of what Jane did next, Edwin's smile disappeared instantly. He looked extremely worried and distraught. Without any hesitation, he turned around and ran downstairs..

CHAPTER 658

Jane helped Janell up. Suddenly, everything went black and she felt dizzy. She slipped and fell forward.

"Ah-" Jane screamed out loud.

"Mommy!" Janell acted fast. She just wanted to protect her mother out of instinct and pulled the corner of her mother's shirt tightly.

Fortunately, Janell caught Jane in time and gave Jane a better sense of balance, so that she could stabilize her body steadily.

She was physically fine, but Jane was scared out of her wits. Her face was pale with fear. For a long time, her heart was still beating so fast that she froze.

If she had fallen to the ground earlier, how terrible the consequences would be. She touched her belly with her heart still fluttering with fear and she felt lucky that she was fine!

"Baby, it's okay, don't be afraid, don't be afraid!" Jane placed her hand on her belly, trying to comfort the baby that might be frightened like she was.

"Mommy, I'm not afraid!" Janell thought that her mom was talking to her, because she was the only "baby" here.

"Yes, both my babies, don't be afraid." Jane rubbed Janell's head and kissed her forehead. Then, she held Janell's hand and walked into the house.

When she walked to the door, she looked back. As the snow melted on the ground, it would be very easy to slip. She had to be more careful in the future.

Both Janell and the child in her belly were important to her. She had great responsibilities upon her shoulders.

As soon as Edwin rushed out of the study and saw Jane standing up safely, his beating heart calmed down too. He covered up the worry in his eyes, and he remained expressionless. Only his clenched fists by the side of his body could reveal his true feelings.

At three o'clock in the afternoon, at the same time as yesterday, Laura  came to Jane's house to pick Janell up and said that she was going over to watch cartoons.

Jane understood that Laura's excuse for watching cartoons was actually an excuse for Janell to go meet Edwin.

If Janell met Edwin today, would Edwin return Janell to her? Jane was not sure, but she did not expose them either.

She did not stop Janell from going over, but only felt a little reluctant "Baby."

Jane put the hat on Janell and looked her in the eyes. "No matter when you come back, don't forget that I will always be waiting for you here."

No matter how long she had to wait, whether it would be days, months, years, or even her whole life, she would be willing to still wait for her daughter's return.

She believed that there would be a day when Janell would think of her and she would return to her. Maybe that day would come many years later, but it didn't matter as long as Janell came back.

Jane thought so in her heart, but Janell, who was still young, did not understand her implied meaning. She was already in a hurry to see her father. She broke away from Jane's arms and held Laura's hand happily.

She waved at Jane and said, "Mommy, I'm going to play with Aunt Laura and I'll be back soon."

"Jane, I'll take her away first. You can do your own work. I'll bring her back later." She knew that Jane was a little reluctant, so, despite being pulled away by Janell, she still turned around to assure her friend.

"Well, okay!" Jane did not say much and just nodded gently. She couldn't always see things negatively. She had to think optimistically.

Maybe, Edwin only wanted to meet up with Janell. Maybe he wasn't asking for Janell from her.

If Edwin really wanted to ask for Janell, he would not have given Jane custody. Since he had given her the custody of Janell, Jane guessed that Edwin would not easily change his mind.

After all, he was the leader of Shengtian Inc. He was trustable and credible.

Jane felt much better and relieved then. Now it was useless to think about anything else. She needed to work hard and earn well. She needed to raise her children well. She knew she shouldn't think too much, but the design that Jane was drawing gradually turned into Janell's  chubby little face.

When Jane came to her senses, she had already messed up her design draft and needed to start again.

"Damn it! What am I doing?" Jane was so angry that she tossed away the brush that she had always cherished.

She promised herself that she needed to focus on her design work to earn well, and she needed to raise her kids well and not think of anything else.

She slapped herself on the face and took a deep breath. Then she walked to the tall mirror in her room and looked at herself.

"Jane, don't you want to be a woman who is really worthy of Edwin? Look at yourself. How can you be worthy of him?"

Jane looked thin and pale now. Just like what people said about her, she looked like a paper doll. If someone poked her with a finger, she would be broken into pieces.

As for Edwin, no matter when, his clothes were always clean and tidy, and he always looked elegant and calm. He would always look the part and was admired by everyone else around him.

As for Jane, what right did she have to stand beside Edwin? What right did she have to make him think of her? Jane pursed her lips and bit herself violently.

"Jane, you have no other choice except to work hard and improve yourself."

After a short pep talk, Jane picked up her brush, sat back down at the desk and began to work on her design.

This time, she drew carefully and seriously, and soon, she was getting in the mood.

"Daddy, I'm here!" Janell opened the door and dashed towards Edwin. She threw herself into her father's embrace and hugged him happily.

"So it's my Janell who walked in. I thought there was a little angel that flew in here from somewhere." Edwin held Janell in his arms and pinched her pink face gently.

"Daddy, I didn't tell Mommy!" In her father's arms, Janell was asking her father for praise. She wanted to let her father know that she did what he told her to do.

"Alright Janell, you did a good job!" Edwin picked Janell up and walked upstairs. "For that, I'm going to reward you."

"Reward?" Janell blinked her big, bright eyes and looked at her father expectantly. She wanted to see what reward her father would give her.

"Your reward would be.. an extra 30 minutes of company with me today." To say that it was a reward for Janell was only a disguise for a reward for himself.

He was living right beside the mother and daughter, but Edwin couldn't hold them in his arms together, so he wanted to accompany his precious daughter more.

They continued this arrangement for the remainder of the week..

CHAPTER 659

For the past few days, Laura Ferdinand would take Janell away on time and bring her back on time. Jane Ronan knew that Laura brought Janell over to see Edwin Carter every day, but she pretended that she didn't know.

In fact, Jane was really grateful that Edwin did not take Janell away from her. She was grateful to Edwin for giving Janell to her.

She did her design work everyday, then she could spend time with Janell for the rest of the day. They enjoyed chatting along happily and she slept beside her every night.

After she was done with her work every day, she would lay in her warm bed and look at the little fellow's pink face.

Jane thought that all her hard work was worth it no matter how busy or tired she was. There was no need to worry that Janell would be taken away by Edwin.

Jane focused on her design work and she completed her first order quickly.

Previously, the clients met with Jane online and discussed their requests. Today, she had to go to the company to talk to the clients after she was done with their first design draft.

During this period of time, Robert Michael had been busy with his own work. He was responsible for sending and picking Andrew up from school every day, which would save Jane some trouble.

Jane left Janell with Laura before she went out for her work. Anyway, the little girl had her father to accompany her, so she would not miss her mother.

When she met the clients for the first time, Jane dressed up and put on some light makeup to make herself look good.

In the past two days, it was still snowing from time to time. There were very few pedestrians and cars on the road.

Just like the last time, Jane waited for a long time but could not get a taxi. Jane was especially afraid of the cold. It was getting increasingly cold and snowy.

After standing outside for such a long time, she felt that her legs were turning frozen. At this time, she missed the weather in Jiangbei a lot.

As Jiangbei was located in the south, cold weather wouldn't last very long. Besides, the cold weather wasn't even very cold too, so she typically only needed to put on a jacket or a coat.

After waiting for a long time, a taxi finally showed up. When Jane waved to stop the taxi, a man stood in front of her and the man was also waving to stop the taxi.

Jane gave up... But the taxi did not stop in front of the man and went straight to her instead. Jane was so happy that she finally got on the taxi.

After getting on the taxi, she repeatedly thanked the taxi driver. The taxi driver was also very kind. When they arrived at the destination, he took the initiative to get out of the car and opened the door for Jane. He even asked her to be careful on the road and to take care of herself!

Before she came to this city, Jane had heard about the many things others would say about this city, some of which were good and some were bad.

She had not been here for a long time yet, but everyone was so nice so far. Even during a snowy day, this city still made her feel warm in her heart.

When Jane arrived at the company, her two clients had already arrived before she did. The clients were dissatisfied with her being late at first, but when they saw the work she designed, the client's attitude changed instantly.

The clients were two women who held traditional and conservative views. The reason they chose Jane to design their gowns was because they liked Jane's style.

Her designs were conservative, yet special. Alternatively, a typical modern.design would appear very liberal and wild. They preferred something more traditional.

When Jane designed something, she held a belief that she would need to fall in love with this gown first, so that her clients could fall in love with it too. Therefore, it was safe to say that she liked every single piece of her design.

Bespoke Designs stood strongly on the grounds of customizing designs for their clients until they were satisfied.

Of course, designers who joined this company had different kinds of designing styles. Clients would browse the designers' portfolios on their website, then they could find the styles they liked.

Everyone has different preferences for style, and every client had their own preferred designer. In the office, the clients were satisfied with the design draft. Jane personally accompanied the clients to choose the materials.

After checking over and over again with her clients, Janell finally handed the design over to the production department for the manufacture process.

After a long day at work, it was already late. Because the weather was cold, the sky turned darker than usual. Jane raised her hand and looked at the time. It was already so late, but if she returned now, it would be the same time for Janell to return home too after seeing her father.

Although Jane knew that Edwin was in New York, she didn't know where he was exactly. She guessed that he would meet Janell at Laura's house every day, so Jane would never visit Laura's house during the afternoon to avoid Edwin.

If she really did bump into Edwin, she wouldn't know how to face him. After sometime, Jane decided to walk around for a while. She didn't want to meet Edwin by any chance.

She didn't want her strength and willpower, which she had tried so hard to build, to collapse completely in front of him.

This time, Jane went to the gift shop at DD Plaza again. To repay their generosity for the big gift they sent over to her, she wanted to just buy some small ornaments to support them.

After entering the store, Jane saw that there were a lot of new products in the store. At first glance, there were several pretty dolls that she knew Janell would like.

There were so many dolls that Jane couldn't make her mind up. She was so fascinated by all of them. Jane decided to buy three dolls and give them to Janell.

However, when she saw the price, she put down two of the dolls silently.

With her current financial status, it would not be easy to raise three children. She needed to save her money. She needed to earn a reputation at work so clients would approach her at Bespoke Designs, then she would make it up for her children.

"Chairman Carter, we've arranged the taxi a long time ago, but Jane didn't.." As he spoke, the driver felt someone coming up from behind. He looked up in a hurry and saw Edwin's gloomy face from the rearview mirror. He looked like a demon, especially in the dark.

The driver immediately shut up and sat upright in the driver's seat. He did not dare to speak another word.

At this time, Edwin was angry. When he saw that Jane kept looking at her watch, he knew that Jane was deliberately avoiding him.

He had stayed in New York for a whole week. During these days, he would request that Laura bring Janell over to him on time. Janell wasn't attending school, yet she was picked up and dropped off at the same time everyday.

Edwin knew that Jane must have figured out what was happening. Three days ago, Edwin only speculated that Jane should have known about his arrival and plan.

However, on the day before yesterday, he was sure that Jane knew who Janell was going out to meet. Every day before Janell went out, she would dress Janell up and talk to her.

In the beginning, Edwin did not pay much attention to that, but on the day before yesterday, he heard Jane say, "Janell, you're going to see the person you want to see the most, so you need to look the prettiest."

At that moment, Edwin was sure that Jane knew about their secret, everyday rendezvous, but that woman pretended to not know anything.

Her heart was really cold and merciless!.

CHAPTERS 654 - 656

CHAPTER 654

In fact, what Jane did not realize was that she did not tell the driver her name, yet the driver called her "Miss Ronan".

However, she did not think too much about it. Jane had been thinking about too many things recently, so she was distracted. How could she encounter such good luck even at a job interview?

Maybe, when a person encountered every unfortunate thing possible, and the luck couldn't go any worse anymore, things would probably get better.

"Mommy!" Janell called out for her and completely disrupted Jane's thoughts.

"Janell, have you had lunch yet?" Jane caught Janell in her arms as she ran towards her. She rubbed her head gently.

"I'm so full." Janell touched her belly and tried to show how full she was from eating good food.

"Well, that's great." Jane was very satisfied.

"This daughter of yours. I remember she used to be very picky, but why is she not picky at all now? After I served her food, she ate obediently by herself, and I didn't have to worry about her." Laura followed behind Janell with her big belly.

"Because I have to eat more so that I can grow up quickly. When I grow up, I can be with Brother Lucas." Janell answered quickly.

"Janell, do you know how sad Aunt Laura is when you say that?" Laura already decided that Janell would be her daughter-in-law, yet she was thinking of other guys, so Laura would be sad to hear that!

"All right, it's cold outside. Let's go in and talk." Jane shook her head helplessly. Her daughter only cared about two people in this world. One was her father, and the other was her Brother Lucas. If Janell knew that Brother Lucas had already disappeared and no longer could be found, would she be devastated?

Every time Jane thought of this, she would worry about Janell as she feared that her daughter would get hurt.

"I've kept some food for you. Let's go to my house to eat." Laura took Janell's hand and walked in front of them. Then she asked, "Jane, how was your work today?"

"It went quite smoothly, so smooth that I couldn't believe it myself. Also, I went to the gift shop in DD Plaza. I didn't buy anything yet I won a lucky prize. Besides, they also arranged for a ride home for me."

As she recalled her day, Jane still felt that she was very lucky. She expected her job interview to go smoothly because she was confident that she could design the clothes that the clients liked. As for the surprise at the gift shop, that was out of the blue.

Laura commented, "Maybe it's your time to be lucky." Just like a few years ago, when Jane was betrayed by Christopher Greyson and Sophie Ronan, she was forced to leave Kyoto City.

After settling down in Jiangbei, she met Edwin. One wouldn't be able to tell if an event would turn out to be pleasant until the end.

Something that seemed to be a good thing might turn bad in a blink of an eye. Something that seemed to be a bad thing might be good in a blink of an eye too.

"I hope so!" Jane agreed. She thought, perhaps she had sinned too much in her previous life, but she had suffered a lot recently and had already repaid her worth. She hoped that her life would only get better after this.

After having lunch at Laura's house, Jane felt a little sleepy and wanted to take a nap at home with Janell.

"Mommy, I still want to play at Aunt Laura's house." Janell woke up late in the morning. She was not sleepy at all, so she didn't want to go home.

Besides, there was another important reason why she wanted to stay at Laura's house.

The other reason was that Edwin had promised to have a video call with her today. She had been looking forward to it since early in the morning. She was waiting for the time to pass to see her father.

"Alright, then you can't disturb Aunt Laura okay, and you can't cry too."

"I promise I won't cry."

"Laura, would that be alright then?"

"Jane, what do you think my answer is?" Laura glared at Jane with dissatisfaction. If she spoke courteously to her again, she wouldn't regard her as a friend.

"Alright, alright, you are the closest person I have." Jane smiled and gave Laura a hug, and then she hugged Janell.

"Baby, I'll have to go back first. You have to be good, okay?"

"I will be very good."

"Okay." Jane felt reluctant even to just leave Janell at Laura's place. She looked back after every step she took, as if she would never see the little fellow again.

"Bye Mommy!" On the contrary, Janell's face was filled with excitement, which made Jane's heart ache.

As soon as Jane left, Janell immediately took Laura's hand and said, "Aunt Laura, I want to see Daddy."

Laura rubbed her head and said, "Janell, you miss your father again?"

"Yes." Janell nodded honestly. She really missed her father a lot

"Janell!" A gentle and pleasant voice came from outside the house. Janell knew who the person was even before she saw the person.

"Daddy?" She left Laura behind and ran towards the direction of the voice. When she saw her father appear at the door, she couldn't believe her eyes.

"Janell!" Edwin Carter smiled and picked Janell up. He kissed her on her pink cheeks and said, "Janell, don't you recognize Daddy?"

"Of course I recognize Daddy!" Janell held onto Edwin's neck, and proceeded to leave sloppy kiss marks all over her father's face.

After kissing her father, she recalled that she had not seen her father for quite a few days already. She pouted her little mouth and was so sad that she wanted to cry. She wanted to put up an act so that he would never leave her again.

"Janell, are you going to act sad now?" Edwin smiled gently. That was a smile that he only reserved for his previous wife and daughter.

"Janell, if you want to act, then go ahead. I'm waiting."

"Daddy, you're bullying me! Bad Daddy!"

How could her father do this? She was already so sad that she was about to cry, yet her father said that she was acting.

She really didn't want to talk to her father anymore! What should she do? In her mind, her father was bullying her, that was why she didn't want to talk to her father anymore.

Yet, her two little hands clung onto her father's neck so tightly, as she was afraid that her father would leave her again.

"Mr. Carter.. Why don't.. Why don't you bring Janell inside first? It's cold outside." Although she had known Edwin for many years, the eloquent Laura still stuttered when she talked to Edwin.

Some people just showed a strong and intimidating aura. Even if they didn't do anything, their presence was enough to intimidate everyone around them.

Edwin was a typical example of this kind of person. In front of Laura and other close friends and family, Edwin never acted arrogantly or demanding, but probably because of his cold character, he appeared unapproachable..

CHAPTER 655

"No need." Edwin held Janell in his arms and was about to leave. He turned around and explained to Laura, "I'll take Janell back to my place, and I'll bring her back here later."

Laura understood, "Alright, have fun with Janell. I'll find a way to deal with Jane."

"Thank you!" Edwin thanked her politely and then walked away with Janell in his arms. Laura stood at the door and watched the two of them head towards the house next to Jane's house. This must be the "place" that Edwin mentioned.

Shengtian was the developer of this luxurious housing area with semi-detached houses. It was impossible for her and John Alex to get a house in this area with his paycheck.

Edwin must have arranged for John to stay here after being transferred to work in the United States. Laura understood why Edwin took very good care of John. This had to do with the close relationship between Jane and her.

When Jane came to New York this time, Edwin had already asked someone to arrange for the mother and daughter to live in this area too.

Besides staying in Shengtian's land, Laura lived here too. Jane would not be so lonely if there was someone here to accompany her.

Edwin had considered a lot for Jane and asked his employees to arrange promptly. Laura could see a bigger picture, but Jane couldn't.

Hence, Laura was very worried. Edwin might not know that Jane was actually very independent. She had some great achievements in her work with her own efforts and had gotten great recognition.

That version of Jane was very qualified to be Edwin's wife, instead of being a burden.

Jane cared too much about him, so she spent a lot of time doubting herself. She did not think she was worthy of his love and care.

Laura suddenly thought of Jane's job interview today. Had it been arranged by Edwin too? Edwin had arranged for everything for Jane. He might not know that if he did all these things for Jane, it would add more pressure on her and push Jane further and further away.

Laura decided that she needed to talk to Edwin about it later. Even though she knew she shouldn't interfere because it was between the two of them, but as Jane's best friend, if she didn't step in, who would?

Edwin probably could not figure Jane out because Jane would always keep everything inside her heart. Therefore, Laura thought that she should talk to Edwin about it despite how annoying she might come off as.

Yes, she made up her mind. When Janell comes over later, she would talk to Edwin about crossing Jane's boundaries.

Janell nestled in Edwin's arms lovingly. She felt so happy and satisfied that she said, "I'm very happy that you're here!"

Edwin patted the little fellow's back gently and said, "Tell me, how happy are you?"

Janell raised her head and hugged Edwin tightly. Then she kissed her dad sloppily, "I'm this happy. I'll be happier if you can stay with me all the time."

She had only been away from her father for two or three days, and she already missed him so much. She wished that her father would stay with her forever and never leave her again.

"Janell, I promise you that I won't leave you alone anymore." Edwin held Janell in his arms and said gently. When Janell  was not by his side, his days went by like years. He felt especially helpless and in pain as he knew that Janell might be missing him from afar.

"You're the best." Janell knew that her father loved her the most and would never leave her.

"In the future, I would see you everyday, but you must remember that this is our little secret. Mommy mustn't know about it." Edwin reassured his daughter and made her promise.

"I will definitely keep it a secret," Janell said very seriously At this moment, Janell was so happy that she would agree to anything. However, if she missed her father and cried, she might slip this secret out.

Edwin held Janell in his arms and sat down by the dining table. "Janell, take a look. What did I prepare for you?"

"Jam, strawberries…" There were all Janell's favorites, which made her eyes lit up. However, this did not beat her happiness when she first saw her father.

Janell was eating happily. Edwin took out his laptop and sat by the side. From time to time, he would look up at her. Just like before, when he was at home, he would be busy with his work, and Janell would keep herself company.

If she was tired of playing and eating, she would climb into her father's arms to sleep. Today, Janell only ate two strawberries, then she climbed into her father's arms. She enjoyed her happy time with her father.

In the past, when Edwin was busy with work, no one would disturb him. However, ever since he had Janell, taking care of his child and working at the same time had become his daily routine.

"Janell, do you want to sleep already?" As Edwin was working, he noticed that Janell looked sleepy.

"I don't want to sleep!" Janell didn't want to sleep. What if her father disappeared after she fell asleep?

"Janell, if you are sleepy, just sleep in my arms. I promise that I won't leave."

Knowing that Janell was worried, Edwin assured her gently.

"Daddy, you can't lie to me."

"When did I ever lie to you?" Janell shook her head. Then she lay in her father's arms and slept soundly because she felt safe in his embrace.

She trusted that she would be able to see her father when she opened her eyes later.

Edwin patted Janell's back gently and coaxed her to sleep. When she fell asleep, he covered Janell with a blanket. Then, Janell fell asleep soundly in his arms.

No matter how busy he was, he never thought of moving Janell to the bed because he promised Janell that he would hold her to sleep. So when she woke up later, she would still be in her father's warm arms. She would see her father first after she woke up.

"Daddy!"

"Janell, you're awake, I'll bring you to Aunt Laura's house first."

"I don't want to." At the thought of separating from her father, Janell was about to cry again.

"As long as you can keep this a secret, you can be with me again tomorrow, shouldn't you be happy about it?"

Janell tilted her head and thought about her father's words. He probably meant that he would always be here, and she could definitely see him if she missed him.

"Alright." Janell nodded. Edwin picked Janell up and brought her back to Laura's place.

Just as he was about to leave, Laura stopped him. "Mr. Carter, did you arrange anything at Jane's job interview today?

Edwin looked at her and said, "No."

Laura added, "Please don't interfere with her work."

Edwin replied, "I've never interfered with her work. She did everything with her own abilities.".

CHAPTER 656

Edwin never interfered with Jane's work. Even though he bought over PM Corporation for Jane, he did not announce it to the public. So that wouldn't affect Jane's identity as an employee there.

Today, when Jane went for the job interview at Bespoke Designs, he only knew about it because he followed her covertly. He didn't arrange it deliberately.

He was misunderstood, but Edwin didn't bother to explain himself. He didn't owe anyone any explanation. After saying goodbye to Laura, he left.

After seeing her father today, Janell was so happy. When she returned home, her face was full of smiles. Seeing her skipping around while humming songs, Jane, who was busy drafting her design, asked curiously, "Baby, why are you so happy today?"

"Shush! I can't say!" Janell raised her index finger and placed it on her mouth. She promised her father that she would never tell her mother, so she needed to fulfil her promise.

"What is it? Can't you tell me?" Jane put down her brush and looked at Janell carefully.

"Mommy, I can't tell you!" If she exposed her secret, her father would probably leave, then she couldn't see her father anymore.

"Alright, if you don't want to tell, I won't ask any further." Jane shook her head helplessly. Her daughter was just over four years old, yet she was being so secretive already.

"I love you so much!" Janell threw herself into Jane's arms happily and spoke sweetly.

Jane hugged Janell and lowered her head close to her neck. Suddenly, she noticed a familiar scent. Jane thought it was her own illusion. She quickly sniffed the rest of Janell's body. There was a very subtle scent on Janell's body, which was the scent of the cologne that Edwin usually used.

No matter when, Edwin always had a sort of scent with him. It smelled very refreshing and unique. Jane spent so much time with him and even fell asleep to that scent every night, so it was very familiar to her.

She was sure that the scent on Janell must have been Edwin's. No one else had that scent.

Jane suddenly understood why Janell was so happy. She must have seen her father, whom she had missed tremendously.

Edwin probably came to New York and met up with Janell, didn't he? As she was deep in thoughts, Jane held Janell tighter and breathed in Janell's scent greedily.

She was using this opportunity to be close to Edwin. A person who could no longer be hers. Although she would remind herself to not think about him every day, he was always lingering in her mind.

"Mommy, it hurts!" Janell protested. Her mother held her so tightly that she could hardly breathe. Hearing Janell's voice, Jane realized that she had lost her composure.

She let go of Janell, patted Janell's back, and said gently, "Baby, I'm sorry!"

"I'm okay now." Janell replied.

"Okay, good girl!" Jane rubbed her head with a smile. "I have washed some strawberries for you and put them on the table. Ifnyou are hungry, wash your hands and help yourself."

"Mommy, I'm not hungry." Her father had just fed her delicious food. She was not hungry at all, so she didn't even want to eat strawberries.

"Really?" Jane let go of Janell. Then she held her face, she looked at her quietly.

"Janell, who did you see today?"

"I didn't see Daddy! Daddy didn't come to New York!" The little fellow was not used to lying. When she said these two sentences, her face turned red.

Looking at the way Janell tried her best to deny it, Jane felt that it was both cute and funny. This silly child immediately confessed even without being pressured.

Jane felt sorry for Janell and said, "Alright, I believe you." Janell was relieved and went to play with her puppy,

Mia, happily. "Woof! Woof! Woof!" Mia circled around Janell for a few times.

Perhaps Mia also smelled the scent of Edwin and had gotten excited,

As she saw both Janell and Mia playing, Jane smiled and looked away, but she could no longer focus on the design draft in her hands.

Why did Edwin come to New York so quickly? Did he want to gain custody for Janell? Or for other reasons?

Jane's heart and mind were in a mess again. She almost broke the brush in her hand, If Edwin wanted to get Janell back, she wouldn't have any objection.

After all, Janell was brought up by him. The little fellow thought about her father all day long and they clearly got along very well.

Yesterday, when Janell thought of her father, she cried so hard that Jane couldn't even console her. She just looked at her child helplessly.

Janell was in a completely different mood today. Because she saw her father, she was so happy that she felt that life was perfect.

In Janell's heart, her father was her whole world. Wherever her father was, she would be there. As long as her father was with her, she would not be afraid.

If Edwin asked for the child back, she would not refuse to give her up, but when Jane looked at Janell again, she suddenly felt a little sad.

What should she do if Janell was taken away by Edwin? Would she only have the child in her belly?

Maybe she hadn't been getting enough nutrients lately, so her child was growing very slowly. She lost her appetite lately.

The night passed, and Jane was still deep in her thoughts. When she got up in the morning, she dressed Janell beautifully up. She was worried that someone would approach her soon to ask for Janell on Edwin's behalf.

After breakfast, Robert Michael was just about to take Andrew to school, and the doorbell rang a few times.

As the doorbell rang, Jane's heart dropped. She held Janell in her arms and kissed her. "Janell..." She had thought of a lot of things to say to Janell last night.

However, she did not know what to say to Janell now. Janell's world was perfect. She had a father and a mother who would love her unconditionally no matter what, and that was enough for her.

Jane took a deep breath and went to open the door with Janell. When Jane opened the door, he saw two workers who stood outside the door with a parcel and some papers.

They said politely, "Miss Ronan, this is a gift from the gift store at DD Plaza. Please sign here." It turned out to be a delivery man...

Fortunately, it was not somebody who

came to take Janell away! Jane could finally breathe again!.

CHAPTERS 651 - 653

CHAPTER 651

When Jane recalled all her past memories, she realized that the closest family member by her side was actually the one who had killed her mother.

Not only that, she also learned that the person had also been feeding her with poison throughout the three years when she experienced her memory loss.

He was her only family and a person she could trust during those three years. She had treated him like her own father, but in the end, she found that everything was all made up.

Fortunately, Edwin Carter did not give up on her. Edwin had been searching for her all that time.

It was Edwin who made her feel secured. He made her feel that she could live a life like everyone else, But gradually, Jane found that she was different from everyone else.

Edwin spoiled her and took good care of her. Everything was well arranged for her. He took care of her as if she was an innocent child.

He often told her this - Jane, I am your husband, and the one you can rely on for the rest of your life. Whenever she had an idea to do something, Edwin would have done it for her already

Slowly, she found that she was contributing less and less. Edwin, on the other hand, did more and more for her. And if she were to leave Edwin, she would be completely useless.

She had become a burden to him, and everything she did was holding Edwin back. This realization made her worry and extremely scared. She had always wanted to be by Edwin's side as a wife who could support him, and be someone who could be on par with him, not a burden for him.

Her father was murdered and Robert was captured. Just when she thought she was a bad luck and caused all kinds of pain for the people around her, Ed Yates's men sent her a video.

Ed threatened her to leave Edwin. Otherwise, he would expose those news and ruin Edwin's reputation.

She has had so many uncertainties in her heart beforehand. That blow from Ed made her truly believe that the people around her had all gotten hurt because of her.

She took a few days to think about it and finally decided to leave Edwin. Because she felt that this was the only way she could guarantee that Edwin would not be harmed by her presence.

In fact, it was all because she did not believe in herself and was still doubting herself. All that led her to make this choice.

Everything that Jane kept to herself, nobody could see through them. But Laura, as her best friend, knew it very well. Without a word, she gave Jane a big hug.

"Jane, I believe in you. You will become the best version of yourself." She wanted to be a person who could really be at the same level as Edwin.

"Laura, thank you!" Jane smiled and said, "You should go home first. I'll be here with Janell for a little longer.

Laura responded, "Then I'll go back first. If there's anything you need, just call me."

"Okay." Jane nodded and got up to send Laura to the door.

When she returned to the room, Jane saw how unsettled Janell was sleeping from all the crying earlier. Her body was still twitching, Jane kissed Janell on the forehead, "Baby, don't know why daddy didn't ask for your custody, but I believe that he will never abandon you. Once he has it all figured out, he will definitely come and find you."

Janell who was fast asleep didn't hear what her mother had just told her. She pursed her lips as if she could cry at any time.

Seeing how sad Janell was, Jane really couldn't think of any other way out apart from feeling sorry for her. She gently patted the blanket over Janell. While humming a nursery rhyme, she browsed through a few design websites on the phone.

It had been two days since they arrived in New York. She had to find a job as soon as possible and start making money to ensure that they could sustain a life here.

She thought that as long as she kept herself busy, she would not be overthinking. And soon, Andrew, Janell, and herself could all settle down and start a new life here.

Everything would be fine. Jane opened up a design website. They were hiring a designer, but as soon as she read the criteria for the desired candidate to have a well-known design brand internationally, she gave up immediately.

After a whole day of browsing online, a website named "Bespoke Designs" caught her attention. She found out that there were a lot of designers who were being listed on this website.

Each designer's resume and designs would be displayed here so that the clients could find themselves a suitable designer easily.

Now.that the living standards had improved, there were more and more rich people, The next thing everyone would spend after good quality food would be how they dressed themselves.

Many celebrities and rich people had private designers, so that they had different clothes for every occasion. They wouldn't have to worry about clashing outfits with these specially designed pieces.

For example, in the Carter Family, all the clothes they wore were designed by professional designers. Every piece was made by hand with the most delicate attention paid to all the details.

However, there were still a lot of people who were not as rich. But they also fancied the idea of having their private designers. Due to the high cost of a private designer, it had opened up the market for this kind of website.

The designers who were listed here were obviously not the most popular ones. But every single one of them had a burning passion for design.

Since they were not the most popular ones, the prices wouldn't be too high either. So many customers from the working-class who were looking for formal dresses could find themselves a custom made design here.

In that case, the website had no problem earning money as there was a good designer base and customer source.

Jane felt that she could totally give it a go. With this idea in mind, Jane immediately turned on the computer to find her resume and attached two of her hand-drawn designs. Finally she sent them to the HR's email address.

After sending out the email, Jane started to prepare. If her resume could get through this stage, then she would definitely have to go for an interview tomorrow. So she had to be prepared.

Not long after the email was sent out, Jane received a reply. She was told to have a meeting at the company at 10 o'clock in the morning the next day. As long as she succeeded in the interview, Jane would be listed on the website as a designer.

If someone liked her style and the price was also reasonable, she would soon get an order. As long as the first order was completed on time and the client was satisfied, she wouldn't have to worry about not having new customers in the future.

This was a brand new beginning for her. Jane had to go all out. Jane was preparing for the interview cheerfully when Janell woke up. She got up herself and rubbed her red swollen eyes. "Mommy."

"Baby Janell, you're awake." Jane turned around.

The little girl looked pitiful but adorable. "Mommy, did I cry?" Janell vaguely remembered that she had cried a bucket of tears, but she did not want to admit it because it was too embarrassing.

CHAPTER 652

"You were a good girl. You didn't cry." Since the little fella didn't want to admit that she had cried, Jane didn't want to expose her either.

Janell smiled embarrassingly after hearing what her mother said. "Mommy, I will be good."

Janell could finally think clearly again. She remembered her father's reminder. She needed to be a sensible child and help her father take care of her mother. She could not mention her father in front of her mother, and she should not make her mother sad.

Jane bent over and planted a kiss on Janell's cheeks. "Come. Now that you've had a good sleep, get up quick and come grocery shopping with mommy. I'll cook you a delicious meal tonight."

Yes, she needed to cheer up and start a new life, instead of living in her past and thinking about the people and things that she should stop reminiscing about

"Okay. I want to eat strawberries and I want fruit jam. I want to eat." Janell was already drooling at the thought of all the delicious food she wanted.

"Okay, you can get all these." Perhaps, it was because Janell had stopped crying, or because of the progress she had from job searching, Jane finally felt better.

She took Andrew and Janell to a nearby supermarket. They got some ingredients with the plan to prepare a dinner and invite Laura and her husband to join them that evening.

Both Janell and Andrew were very sensible. One helped to carry the rice packet, while the other helped to carry the vegetables. Both of them wanted to take care of their mommy.

Jane rubbed their heads and said, "You two are still too young. You still can't carry so many things yet. Let me carry them for you. You can help me when you're older, okay?"

"Not okay." It was quite rare for Andrew and Janell to be so in sync that both of them said that simultaneously.

"Then Andrew, you can help me carry the sauce and fruits." Jane handed the sauce and fruits to Andrew, and then handed the rice to Jane. "Okay, you can help to carry the rice packet."

She asked the children to help carry some, and she carried the other two bags herself. In this way, she could satisfy the children's desire to help, but it wouldn't be too tiring for them.

Jane received a call from Robert as soon as she got home. He said that he had found a good school for Andrew and also got him into a language fundamentals class.

From tomorrow onwards, he would be taking language lessons for two hours everyday.

Robert got someone to sort out the school for Andrew. This was yet another good news, and Jane was feeling even better now. "Janell, I'm going to cook. You will call Auntie Laura and invite Uncle John and her over for dinner tonight."

Jane brought the groceries into the kitchen while delegating some tasks to the kids. The weather here was quite chilly, Jane had decided to prepare hotpot for dinner tonight.

It would be quite fun for the two families to enjoy hot pot around the table in this weather.

Soon, Laura came running over. While helping Jane wash the vegetables, she nagged, "Why didn't you ask me to join you for groceries? Then I can ask John to carry all the heavy stuff."

Jane answered with a smile, "Woman, you only know how to bully John. Please don't come crying if he ever goes to someone else."

"He deserves it. I've been bullying him for years. If I didn't bully him, he may not be used to it even." Laura was sure about John's demeanor. He wouldn't feel right If he didn't get scolded

"Yes, yes, yes. I'm totally not used to you not scolding me. Then, Mrs. Alex, please leave the vegetables to me. You can take a rest."

When John Alex joined them later and saw his wife cleaning the vegetables, he felt a little heartache because he'd never let Laura do these things at home.

"John, you want to be scolded again, don't you?" The two women were busy enjoying themselves in the kitchen. Why would a man come and interrupt?

"Laura, go with John. I'll be fine here myself." Jane took the vegetables from Laura's hand because she didn't want them to have a fight at her place.

"I want to help out, what's wrong with that?" Laura was cocky like that, she didn't even look at John. Actually the house they were staying in was very comfortable. It was snowing heavily outside, but the heating system in the house was very good, so they didn't actually feel cold at all.

She never felt cold from washing the vegetables. It was John who was making a fuss. He didn't allow her to do anything because she was pregnant with his baby.

He should be the one serving her instead. Laura was not happy with what he had said. Why did she have to be served now that she's pregnant? Did it mean that if she wasn't pregnant he would no longer treat her this well?

"Jane, you should take a rest. Leave these all to me." Since John couldn't persuade Laura, he went to Jane instead.

Jane was not only his wife's best friend, but also the person his big boss cared most about. It would be quite impossible for him not to take care of her as well.

Jane carefully pushed Laura out of the kitchen and said, "Mr. and Mrs. Alex, I invited you two to come to my house as guests, I didn't ask you to come help. Just go to the living room and sit down, otherwise I will be upset."

These two were the real sweethearts. Jane shook her head. In fact, she often envied couples who quarrelled and fought, rather than having everything done for each other.

Their second day in New York, Jane ended it with a hotpot with her children. After getting Janell to bed, she turned on the computer to prepare for tomorrow's interview.

She could use her resume and her previous works to get clients on the platform. After the transaction, the website would charge a 10 percent commission. That was actually quite reasonable.

The most important thing was that she could work from home and arrange her time freely. She would be able to take care of Janell while she worked, totally killing two birds with one stone.

She was very satisfied with the job description and was confident that she could do it well. Therefore she had to be well prepared for it. She had to ace the interview!

Perhaps she was thinking about work, Jane dreamt about work as well, and had no more nightmares. She slept through the whole night and was obviously looking much more energetic the next day.

After breakfast, Robert sent Andrew to school. Jane had asked Laura to take care of Janell, so that she could go to her interview at Bespoke Designs.

She had to be in luck. The interview went smoothly. The interviewer looked through her information and asked her to sketch on the spot.

They did not ask further questions and signed the contract with her amicably. Everything went so unbelievably smooth even Jane was surprised.

She was finally able to feel happy after taking all the surprises in, knowing that she would be able to lead a good life in this city soon.

When she came out of Bespoke Designs, the snow got heavier, but Jane felt relieved and happy.

She took a deep breath as she watched the snow fall. Then she smiled and made a cheering gesture for herself, "Jane, you can do it! You can do it for sure!" Little did she know, a man was observing her every single action from afar..

CHAPTER 653

A silver Ferrari was parked at the side of the road. It had been there for a while now, so a layer of snow piled up on the roof of the car.

There was a man sitting in the driver's seat of the car. The man's eyes fell on Jane and followed her every move. He looked at her with mixed emotions. He had his vision fixed on Jane.

It had only been three short days, yet she seemed to have lost some weight. Even though she was wearing a thick down jacket, it was still impossible to hide the fact that she had lost weight.

"This damn woman!" Did she really know how to take care of herself? Why couldn't she take better care of herself so that he didn't have to worry about her that much.

Edwin Carter clenched his fists over and over again as he watched Jane standing beside the road. He tried really hard to hold his urge to rush out of the car.

If he turned up now, that heartless woman could do anything. Just let it be for now, for her to stay at the place that he'd arranged. Even when he was not by her side, it would still be better than having her find some random place to stay and completely stayed out of his sight.

However, Jane was completely unaware that someone was watching her. Looking at the snow that was getting heavier, she pulled her coat tighter and walked towards the bus stop nearby.

She had promised Janell that she would be home by lunch, so she had to do so. She did not want to let Janell down.

Perhaps because of the snow, there were fewer pedestrians on the streets, but the line for the bus was getting longer. It would probably take at least half an hour until her turn.

Jane so wished that she had wings and could just fly home to her daughter's side that instant. Yet, even if she wanted to take a cab now, she would still have to be in a long queue.

If she waited for everyone to be picked up in the line, it would be noon by the time it was her turn. It was getting closer to lunch time. Jane was still waiting at the same spot. She could neither get a taxi, nor get on the bus. She didn't know what to do.

Meanwhile, Janell called. Jane apologized as soon as the call was connected, "Baby, I am still busy. I'll get home slightly later. You have lunch with Auntie Laura first, okay?"

Janell did not answer straight away. She was probably very disappointed. However, she did not want her mother to be upset, so she responded sweetly, "Okay, I will be a good girl and eat first. Mommy, you don't have to worry."

"Okay. Have a good meal. I will be back soon." After she hung up, Jane looked up and saw that the queue ahead of her was still very long. Jane shook her head.

All this while, she had transportation arranged for her if she ever wanted to go somewhere. She was not used to having to do this all of a sudden.

Before she met Edwin, her life was just like this. So she knew that she could get used to this in no time.

Just as Jane had a look around, she saw a gift store nearby. She immediately had the thought of getting a gift for Janell.

There were a variety of items in the gift store. There were all kinds of dolls and small accessories. Jane had a good look around but she couldn't find anything she fancied.

Their baby had good taste. If she just got her anything, she might not like them. Jane was very certain about Janell's particularity. She had to have inherited this from her father, she wouldn't want anything she didn't like.

This reminded her of Edwin all of a sudden. She pulled a bitter smile and wondered what he was up to right then.

There was a twelve hours time difference between New York and Jiangbei. It was noon in New York at the moment, so it would probably be midnight in Jiangbei now.

So what else could Edwin be doing? He had to be sleeping at home.

At the thought of Edwin, Jane lost her interest to shop. However, she was stopped by one of the store assistants when she was about to leave.

The store assistant was a sweet-looking white lady. She greeted her with an American accent, "Miss, you are the third lucky star chosen by the store today. Whether you've purchased anything or not, since you've stepped into our store, you are our most distinguished guest. It's a freezing day today, we will give you a gift that can warm you up. Additionally, the store will also arrange a designated car to send you home."

Jane could neither get a cab, nor hop on the bus. So she decided to do some shopping around. And then she was somehow chosen as the lucky star without having to buy anything.

Jane wanted to believe her good luck, but getting a gift all of a sudden and a dedicated car to send her home was truly unbelievable.

Jane was a stranger to New York city. She would rather not believe all these good luck that came to her all of a sudden.

"Thank you for your kindness but I don't need it!" Jane thanked her politely and turned around, ready to leave. However, as soon as she stepped forward, the store assistant reached out and grabbed her in a hurry.

Jane turned around and looked at the store assistant. She smiled apologetically and said, "Miss, this is a tradition in our store for over a hundred years. We have always had this campaign every year after Christmas. You are the chosen lucky star. If you don't accept your gifts... our store will.."

The store assistant did not finish her words, but she was sincere and looked a bit worried. It was almost like the store would be met with misfortune if Jane didn't accept her offer.

Jane was about to refuse her for the second time when she heard the conversation between a man and a woman next to her.

"Wow, we really didn't expect to be the last lucky star of your store in this year's event. We came here every year whenever you had this campaign. And we finally won it this year."

After she overheard the conversation and considered the big establishment of the store, she thought they probably wouldn't lie to her. She finally nodded and agreed.

When she got into the car the store had arranged, Jane finally understood what the so-called "lucky" truly meant. Only a hundred-year-old established store like theirs would be able to send their customers home in a Ferrari.

Jane also realized that marketing was very important to generate sales, For example, the website she would get listed on, if they were only showing the designers, the impact to attract customers would be minimal. The platform should find ways to market their designers.

Nothing too exaggerating but at least, the strengths of the designers should be highlighted to their potential clients. This would attract more customers and maximize their profits.

While she was still thinking, the car had already arrived at her place. The car pulled over, and the driver got out immediately and opened the door for Jane.

"Miss Ronan, that's my service for today. The gift will be sent to you later on."

"Okay, thank you!" Jane expressed her gratitude politely. She entered the house after watching the car leave. Jane suddenly thought of something after a few steps.

But when she tried to recall it, she could no longer remember what she was thinking about..
