CHAPTERS 621 - 623

CHAPTER 621 WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT

Thinking that she might not be able to do these things for them in the future, Jane Ronan felt as if a knife had cut her heart, and tears started rolling down from the corners of her eyes.

She wiped her tears and took a deep breath to adjust her emotions. Rather than thinking too much, she might as well enjoy all the time she had with her husband and daughter.

"Jane Ronan, what happened to you?" Edwin Carter's voice sounded behind her.

"I'm fine." Jane Ronan's back stiffened, but she didn't. have the courage to turn around and look at him.

Didn't he go to the study room?

Why did he come to the kitchen again?

"Are you alright?" Obviously, Edwin Carter wouldn't believe that Jane Ronan was fine.

"What can I do for you?"

"Jane Ronan!" Edwin clenched his hands, and muttered. He was a bit annoyed, "Are you trying to hide something from me?"

"Edwin Carter, what exactly do you want to hear? You tell me, I'll tell you. " Jane Ronan was also angry as she shouted back.

"You …" If he were to continue talking to her, the two of them would most likely have another fight.

Edwin Carter didn't want to argue with her, so he turned around and walked away, returning back to the study room.

He sat at his desk, lit a cigarette, and took a few long puffs.

He had always been a smoker, but he rarely smoked in front of Janell and Jane Ronan. No matter what he did, his first concern was with them.

But today, he was truly very angry.

Jane Ronan was so angry that she hid everything in her heart and didn't tell him anything.

He had told her so many times, that he was her husband, someone she could rely on for the rest of her life.

   But her?

She seemed never paid attention to what he said.

   For so long.

What should he do to change her?  If only she can change even a little, and he would be satisfied.

But look at her. She didn't even want to talk to him.

Edwin Carter finished the cigarette between his fingers, picked up his phone and made a call, "Have you seen Robert Michael?"

When he called Jane Ronan today, he had just received news of Robert Michael. He originally wanted to tell her, but hearing her tone, he didn't say anything.

Knowing that she was in a bad mood, he put down his work and hurried to the kindergarten. He was also glad that he went, so he did not let those people continue to act arrogantly.

He felt sorry for Janell's injury, but Jane Ronan kept everything to herself, which made his heart ache even more.

More than once, he had even thought of her a lesson, so she would really acknowledge him as her husband.

However, he could not be angry with her.

Luis George's voice came out of the phone respectfully, "Boss Carter, Robert Michael has safely returned home. In fact, this time, it wasn't a kidnapping, but he is manipulated by someone to create an illusion that he was kidnapped. The purpose is to convince your wife to believe the evidence in his possession to get your wife to leave you. "

Hearing this, Edwin Carter's face turned sullen. Robert Michael was usually such a smart person, but in this matter, he was just like a fool. He was being toyed with, but he didn't know about it at all.

However, Edwin Carter could also forgive him. After all, the person who died was Robert Michael's father. How could he not believe the words his father told him before his death?

"Bring Robert Michael to see me tomorrow." Edwin Carter must let Robert Michael know the truth, and not let him create trouble for him again.

With that, he cut off the phone, lit up another cigarette, and smoked a few mouthfuls.

After smoking a cigarette, he turned on his computer and prepared to attend a cross-oceanic meeting. After finishing this project, he was prepared to give himself a good holiday. He was prepared to ignore everything and do whatever he had to do.

While the meeting was going on, the door to the conference room was gently pushed open. Janell opened the door a crack, stuck out her round head, and looked at her father with her big eyes. "Daddy, can you play with me."

Hearing Janell's voice, Edwin Carter looked up and his serious expression instantly turned gentle. "Daddy is in a meeting right now, come and sit with daddy for a while. Daddy will play with you later, ok?"

"Sure." Janell brought Mia to her father's side. Edwin Carter carried her and sat on his lap, continuing the video conference.

The people who held the cross-oceanic video conference with Edwin Carter were not surprised. In the past, when they held such meetings, their boss would change their children's diapers and feed her before the session.

It wasn't surprising at all. They have been used to this since a long time ago.

Janell sat on her father's lap, listening to her father's conversation with many uncles and aunts in the video.

Although she didn't understand what they were talking about, she listened attentively and sensibly, without disturbing her father.

At the end of the meeting, Edwin Carter turned off the computer and kissed Janell on the cheek. "Janell, does the wound still hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt anymore. But I dont think mommy is very happy at the moment." She was small, but her thoughts were clear.

She went to the kitchen to look for her mother. Her mother was always distracted, so she knew that something must have happened to her mother.

However, she couldn't help her as a child, so she came to find her father, hoping that her father could help her mother.

She didn't want to see her mother unhappy. She hoped that her father and mother would be happy. That way, she would be happy too.

"Mom is seriously cooking food for you and dad. She isn't unhappy. We'll wait for her here, and then we'll have dinner later." Edwin Carter didn't want the children to know about the affairs of the adults.

"Dad, if mom is not unhappy then I want to watch cartoons."

"Ok, dad will play something for yoy, but only for a short while. If you watch for too long, it will hurt your eyes."

   "OK."

The little girl had always been so sensible and listened to her father.

   "You are the most obedient."

"Dad, will the new baby look more like me or Mia?" Her gaze landed on Mia who was lying on the ground.

No matter what the new baby look like, she should be able to accept it.

"Of course, the new baby will look like you. The baby will be very cute like Janell, so will you like the baby?"

"Yes I will. But I also want a sister like a Barbie doll, so there will be a lot of cute dolls playing with me. "

"Alright, dad and mom will try their best to give you lots and lots of little sisters in the future ."

"Dad, I don't want to go to kindergarten anymore." There weren't any children in the kindergarten that she liked. There were even some who wanted to bully her. She didn't like that kindergarten at all.

"Well, then we will not go if you don't like it." Sending Janell to kindergarten, Edwin Carter just wants her to make more friends and grow up l happily as other children.

Now that Janell got injured, and since she didn't want to go, Edwin Carter wouldn't force her to go. Edwin Carter had always been such a man who doted on his daughter to the point that she had no principles.

CHAPTER 622 HEARTBREAK

"Time to eat." Jane Ronan pushed the door open and came in. Seeing that her husband and daughter were happily chatting, she asked, " Janell,  what are you talking about with your father?"

"Mom, I don't have to go to kindergarten anymore." Janell quickly told the good news to her mother.

"Really? You don't need to go to kindergarten? " Jane Ronan slightly raised her head and looked at Edwin Carter. His gaze was also on Janell, so he did not look at her.

Edwin Carter's seemed to be doing it deliberately, Jane Ronan could feel that he was not focusing on Janell but he was deliberately ignoring her.

"Dad agreed. There's no need to go to kindergarten." Janell was so excited that she hugged her father and kissed him. Then she slipped off his body and threw herself into her mother's embrace.

Jane Ronan carefully hugged Janell, purposely avoiding the injuries on her body. She said, "If you don't want to go,  then we won't go."

Janell was so smart anyway, she already learnt everything that was within the syllabus and has even outsmarted all the other kids. It didn't matter if she didn't go to kindergarten, her happiness was the most important.

At the dinner table, Jane Ronan prepared three strawberries for Janell, which were the appetizers for every meal.

As usual, Janell stuffed the strawberry juice into her mouth and took a bite. She ate happily.

Edwin Carter wiped her mouth with a tissue, "Janell, eat slowly, no one is fighting for it with you."

Jane Ronan poured a bowl of soup for Edwin Carter and handed it to him. He didn't say anything to her, and Jane Ronan also didn't say anything to him.

She sat down across from Janell and looked at her husband and daughter. She felt warm inside, and even just looking at them like that made her feel very happy.

Janell pointed at the fried eggs and said, " I want to eat my mommy's tomato omelette."

Perhaps, Janell really loved red fruits and vegetables.

She liked strawberries, and she liked tomatoes as well. Right after she have eaten strawberries, she was already asking for the tomato omelette.

Edwin Carter immediately served some on her plate and said, "Ok, eat it."

"Thank you, Daddy! "Thank you, Mommy!" Janell said sweetly.

"You're welcome." Jane Ronan smiled and also gave some food to Edwin Carter, "Daddy, you should eat more too."

Jane Ronan knew Edwin very well. Sometimes, this man is quite awkward. When the two of them are sulking, he will be angrier than her. So, at this moment, it's better for her to give in.

When she served him food, his stern look immediately soften, and the way he looked at her also became gentler.

As the saying goes, a man is like a child at times. Edwin was usually cold and aloof, but at times, he was so awkward that he was like a child.

Today, for example, when he asked her a question and she didn't answer, he began to "show his might." She was right in front of his eyes, but he treated her as if she was transparent and ignored her completely.

At times like this, if she was to argue with him, he probably wouldn't even say a word to her all night.

   Forget it!

Jane Ronan silently shook her head.

It had always been him taking care of her. It was him who followed what she wanted. It was also time for her to take care of him and give in.

   "..."

   After dinner.

Edwin Carter was in charge of washing the dishes while Jane Ronan was in charge of bathing Janell and coaxing her to sleep.

The moment she coaxed Janell to sleep, Edwin Carter quietly came behind her. He used his powerful arms to gently hug her from behind and whispered into her ear, "Jane Ronan, tell me what's hidden in your heart."

Jane Ronan snuggled up to Edwin Carter and said, "Edwin Carter, give me two more days to think about it."

Jane Ronan had been restless ever since she answered the phone call today. She couldn't remember whether she had agreed to the other party's request.

Yes, just like they said, she could tell Edwin Carter about this matter and have Edwin Carter stop it. But if that happened, news would definitely spread out.

Of course, she didn't want to see any negative news about Edwin Carter leaked. She didn't want Edwin Carter's reputation to be affected in any way.

Edwin Carter wanted her to be good, and she also wanted him to be good. She wanted to be able to do a little bit of things for him, like what a wife would do to her husband.

She didn't want Edwin Carter to do everything for her and she just sat idly aside.

Edwin Carter turned Jane Ronan around, pushed away the hair on her forehead, and kissed her on the forehead. "Okay, then let's go to bed early."

All along, Edwin Carter was willing to respect Jane Ronan's wishes. Since she asked him to give her two days, he would give her time to think it over.

   "..."

   In the dead of night.

Jane Ronan had nightmares again, and they were the nightmares she hadn't had for many years.

In her nightmares, many people would point at her, scolding her for being shameless and for stealing her sister's man.

His sister's man became Edwin Carter's face. Edwin looked at her coldly as if she was a stranger to him.

She watched as Edwin Carter carried Sophie Ronan and left. She called out to him, but he ignored her. She ran after him … He was about to catch up to Edwin, but a car ran out of nowhere.

The car was driving towards her. Just as the car was about to hit her, Edwin Carter suddenly fell from the sky.

He pushed her away and was knocked away by the car.

   "Bang ~ ~ ~"

Jane Ronan watched Edwin Carter get knocked away before his body fell heavily on the ground and kicked up a cloud of dust.

   "Edwin!"

Jane Ronan called out his name, but couldn't make a sound.

She tried to run toward him, but her feet seemed stuck to something and she couldn't move.

She watched helplessly as blood slowly flowed out from Edwin Carter's body, turning into a sea of blood.

"Edwin Carter, don't... Don't leave me... Don't..." Jane Ronan waved her hand and let out a heart-wrenching howl.

Edwin Carter pulled Jane Ronan into his embrace and hugged her tightly, "Jane, I'm here, don't be afraid! Don't be afraid! It was just a dream, a dream. "

Edwin Carter's low and magnetic voice pulled Jane Ronan out of her nightmare.

She opened her eyes and only after a while did she finally wake up and see Edwin Carter's face clearly.

"Edwin?" She reached out and touched his face, every line of it. "Is it really you?"

   Is it really him?

   Is he okay?

"It's me." Edwin Carter grabbed her hand and kissed it, "Look at me carefully, my eyes and nose are still here. If it wasn't me, who else would it be?"

Jane Ronan looked at Edwin Carter for a long time before confirming that it was her husband.

The accident was just a dream. He was still alive and lying beside her.

Jane Ronan hugged Edwin Carter's skinny waist, lowered her head and whispered into his chest, "Edwin Carter, you're still staying by my side, it's great!"

CHAPTER 623 NO ONE BUT YOU CAN HURT ME

At this moment, Jane Ronan realized that nothing could make her feel more at ease than seeing Edwin Carter alive and well.

As long as he was alive and well, she would be satisfied even if that meant having to walk away.

Although she would feel heartbroken when she saw other women by his side, that heartbroken would definitely not be more heart-wrenching than when she dreamt of his death earlier.

"Jane Ronan, don't be afraid. Dreams are the opposite of reality." Edwin Carter patted her back and comforted her softly.

"Mm, I know, you will definitely be fine." Jane Ronan spoke softly. She was just talking to herself.

Perhaps this dream was just a warning to her.

If she wasn't willing to leave Edwin Carter, she would be selfish. Perhaps she would end up losing Edwin Carter completely.

"Jane Ronan, Robert Michael is fine now. We have almost found all the evidence against your father's murderer. I will soon be able to bring the real culprit to justice. "

Perhaps Jane Ronan didn't trust in him enough that he could save Robert Michael, nor didn't believe that he could find her father's killer, so she became depressed and lost her mind.

"It's good that Robert Michael is fine. Don't look into the murderer's matter anymore, it doesn't matter who it is anymore. " Jane Ronan didn't want Edwin Carter to take anymore risk. What if the murderer was forced to act against him?

She already lost two important people in her life, so no matter what, she couldn't let Edwin Carter get hurt at all.

Right, she didn't care about anything else, she only wanted Edwin Carter to be fine.

"Alright, we won't look into it if you say stop." In order to not make Jane worry, Edwin listened to what Jane Ronan said.

Jane Ronan looked into Edwin Carter's eyes and said, "Edwin Carter, promise me. You must protect yourself well and never let anyone hurt you."

"Idiot, don't let your imagination run wild. No one can hurt me." Edwin Carter rubbed her head and said softly.

In this world, there was no one who could harm him other than her.

"In any case, you have to promise me that no matter what happens, you have to think about the matter through. There is still Janell waiting for you at home."

"You're wrong, my small and big Janell is waiting for me at home." Edwin Carter put Jane Ronan's head on his chest and said, "It's getting late, let's go to sleep. The baby in your belly needs to sleep even if you don't. "

Jane Ronan laid on Edwin Carter's chest, listening to his steady and powerful heartbeat. She was very relax and not long later, she slowly fell asleep again.

Looking at Jane Ronan's restless sleep, Edwin Carter recalled that she had been distracted the whole day. After thinking for a long time, Edwin Carter picked up her phone and unlocked it with her fingerprint.

   "..."

After staying in Dreamscape City for the night, Edwin Carter brought his wife and daughter back to the Orchard Villa.

Dreamscape City was more like a home, but its security was too poor. Since it was in the midst of all the trouble, Edwin Carter still didn't dare to take the risk of his wife and daughter.

After returning to the Orchard Villa, Edwin Carter went back to work, leaving Jane Ronan and Janell at home.

Angela Carter was busy with filming, Laura was still in the United States. Other than the two of them, Jane Ronan didn't have any other good friends, so she couldn't find anyone to say what she wanted to say.

After some thought, she still dialed Laura's number. The voice of Laura on the other end of the phone sounded very happy. " Jane, did you miss me?"

Jane Ronan said, "Yes, I missed you. If you're not in the country, I couldn't even find anyone to go shopping with. When are you coming back?"

"So the only thing I can do for you is to go shopping." Laura sounded angry, but she was definitely joking with Jane Ronan.

"Exactly, your only purpose for me is to be my shopping companion." No matter how much time had passed, the two of them still speak comfortably as they always did. If they speak normal, it would be too awkward

"Okay let's be real. We were supposed to return home by the end of this month, but a few days ago, the management of Shengtian Headquarters assigned John Alex a task, so this means that we have to stay here in the United States longer"

Laura let out a long sigh and said, "It seems that when John Alex is done with his project, I might have given birth too. So, that would mean that we need to stay here longer. "

Laura really wanted to return to Jiangbei, but since John Alex was going to stay in the United States to work, and she is pregnant, John Alex definitely wouldn't let her return alone.

Jane Ronan smiled and said, "How about I visit you in America sometime?"

"Sure, of course I'm happy if you come to see me in America, but Mr. Carter definitely won't let you go on a long journey alone." Laura had witnessed how much Edwin cared about Jane.

"Laura …" Jane Ronan wanted to say something, but hesitated.

   "Jane, what happened?"

"Did you know that I really like Edwin Carter? I like him so much. I don't even know when it started. All I know is that from the very beginning, when I agreed to marry him, I was determined to spend the rest of my life with him." There were some words that Jane Ronan did not have the courage to say to Edwin Carter, which she can share to Laura.

"Jane, of course I know. But why did you suddenly say this? " Jane Ronan had been betrayed by someone close to her. If Edwin Carter didn't give her a sense of security, she would have not agreed to marry him easily.

"Nothing much, just that there is something bothering me and I need to talk to someone." She felt so much better after saying those out loud..

"Jane,  staying home all the time is a bit boring. Why don't you bring Janell to America to visit me? I promise to make you laugh everyday." Laura said casually. No matter how many things she had encountered, she was still the same Laura that Jane Ronan knew.

"Well, if I have the chance, I will definitely go to America to see you." The United States was where Edwin Carter was born. Jane Ronan had wanted to go for a long time, but she didn't have the chance.

If she left Edwin Carter one day, she might not have the courage to stay in Jiangbei anymore, so she decided to go somewhere else.

It was good to be able to go back to Edwin Carter's place of birth and be able to be by his side in another way.

"Laura, it's already so late. Why are you still awake?"

John Alex's voice came from the phone. Only then did Jane Ronan realize the time difference that Jiangbei and the United States have.

Jiangbei was in the middle of the morning, and it was already the middle of the night in New York City.

She said, "Laura, you should get some rest. I'll call you another day. "

"Okay, then I'll go to sleep first. Don't think too much about it, call me when you're free." Laura spoke for a while longer before hanging up.

Just as she hung up, Jane Ronan's phone rang again. The caller was the same number as yesterday.

Looking at the number on her cell phone's screen, Jane Ronan felt like she was looking at a verdict on her death. She waited for it to ring a few times before answering with trembling hands.

As soon as the call connected, the person on the other end asked sinisterly, "Mrs. Carter, have you thought about the matter that we discussed yesterday?"
